Sadly, I’m not surprised. I’m an alumnus & have been following this story for a while. I don’t see how they’re going to reconcile traditional Catholic teaching on homosexuality with what the gay community really wants out of this, which is for the Catholic Church to accept their lifestyle as normal. I suspect that it’s a PR job for the university, since they got a lot of bad press over the issue when a student opposed to it voiced his opinion on a website & was disciplined. People in the local paper were downright vicious. The funny thing is that apparently this student had a lot of support from other students on campus, who spoke out against the disciplinary action, but that didn’t get reported too much. Not surprising. In any event, this is going to be a problem for Duquesne - it will be interesting to see how many alumni stop contributing money and how many prospective students pull out. There’s also that little matter of the Vatican’s upcoming review of Catholic schools…
