Durable Rosary?

Hi CAF,

Any ideas on where I can get a durable rosary?

Seems like the ones I have often get broken links.

I recall a passage from Thomas Merton’s Seven Storey Mountain where Merton distinguishes between “show” rosaries and “for heavy use” rosaries.

Go to Amazon, type in Catholic rosaries in their search engine, and read the customer reviews. I purchased one last year from Amazon based on the reviews and still no problems. Only drawback, you’ll need to have it blessed at your local parish.

Why is this a drawback…? :confused:

Also, while it is certainly beneficial to do so, to my knowledge rosaries do not “need” to be blessed. All of mine are, but I used most of them for years prior to having them blessed.
 
Sorry, I accidentally quoted the Etsy quote. I agree though, it’s a great resource.
 
If you are carrying it with you one of those zipper pouches goes a long way toward keeping it protected in the pocket. But even then there are issues.

I’ve found anything done with string lasts the longest. Wood beads on a string. I’m sure the knotted string are just as good never tried them.

Shannon is great to deal with. If you email her for a request you will get a quick response from her and she can do custom as well.

I ended up getting the “Men in Black” version. I really like it as it’s tough but also very light.
 
Check out Sisters of Carmel website. I just ordered a custom made rosary. The sisters hand-make the rosaries and they use a special type of linking. I’m still waiting for mine to come in, but I’m sure it is going to be beautiful. I had mine made to be quite substantial with 8mm black onyx beads and a 3" St. Benedict crucifix. If you have it custom made, there are numerous options. They will also have the rosary blessed by a priest if you request. Besides all of this, you would be supporting the work of these holy, cloistered nuns who dedicate their lives to Christ and praying for priests and all of us.
 
I had a problem that any Rosary I would buy (except for the really cheap ones, oddly enough) would always break on me. The more expensive and durable they claimed to be, the more likely they were to break. Then, finally, someone bought me a Rosary from a company called “unbreakable rosaries.” With a name like that, it sounded very promising! The rosary is beautiful, guaranteed to never break, and if it does, the manufacturer will send you a new one for free. I’ve had mine since Easter, the longest I have had a nice Rosary for. It shows no signs of breaking either! I don’t know how much they cost, because mine was a gift, though.

It’s been months since I last used a Rosary. I just use my finger joints. Makes it easier to pray the Rosary in secret anywhere, almost anywhen.

I like the post about fingers. Fingers are about as durable as I need, since I guess I’ll be able to use them until, well, I don’t need them any more. By the way, will we still pray the Rosary in heaven/purgatory? Hoping that I get to one of those, of course…

I also have a “finger ring” rosary which is pretty tough, it being just a metal ring, but maybe not as tough as fingers!

Now, here’s an insight into the spiritual life. You’re used to hearing about stages of the spiritual life, like purgation, the desert, and union with God, and so forth. How about these:
  1. First stage: when you first start praying.
  2. Second stage: when you pray the Rosary so much that your rosaries fall apart, but you don’t know what to do.
  3. Third stage: when you pray the Rosary so much that your rosaries fall apart, but you do know what to do (i.e. get more rosaries 😛 or, best yet (this is the spiritual height) when you know where to get unbreakable rosaries)
