We really need a science forum 😛 anyways, thoughts on the results of neutrinos traveling faster than the speed of light?

Quick question to any physicist here, does the speed of neutrinos diminish over a distance or is it constant like photons?

I’d been invited to post here via PM, otherwise would not address this. It is a fine question, but unless it is interconnected with religious or metaphysical beliefs, it belongs on PhysicsForums.com, where beliefs are not allowed, unless they are “scientific” beliefs. (e.g: the laws of physics are identical everywhere in the universe, the Big Bang happened, and Darwin was a genius.)

A book I finished yesterday does a lot of connecting between theology and physics, but as radical as its proposals are, speculations about v > c are beyond its scope. They may appear in a paper, or appendix to a subsequent edition. They have no more place here than other speculations about physics.

Read the posts. There are what, a dozen people who post here from time to time who know anything whatsoever about physics, or the requirements for critical thinking which make it work. Those who appear to have some background are as dogmatic about their physics as about their religion (with a few notable exceptions-- not you, “Buffalo.”) Somewhere Christ left us with a parable about swine and pearls, which applies well in this intellectual environment. If you have pearls to toss around, find some attractive young women who will appreciate them, however momentarily.

As someone who has accepted the existence of UFOs since age 12, shared good wine and conversation with J. Allen Hynek, and had a number of precognitive experiences, I am compelled to accept the idea that neither information nor spacecraft regards the permeability and permittivity constants of free space as a guide to velocity limitations. But hey, I’m the crazy ex-teenager who, in 1959, beat the hottest car in town, a '59 Chev V8 4-box, with a personally modified '50 Pontiac.
 
Based on what I could gather from the popular news sources, and passing it through an SNC filter I developed based on this comic, I figured that there was a statistical error margin in the experimental results wide enough to imply some chance that the neutrinos were going faster than light. The subject has been fisked adequately on reputable sites since the story broke.

I read a book (whose title I cannot recall) about this singular subject, with its necessary connection TO the expansion of the universe.

So, it is not surprising to verify that prediction that c is not an absolute limit. Perhaps it was surprising (even to the researchers themselves who were very slow to release their observations, and only after inviting a lot of independent verification of their data analysis) that they could have so easily shown that to be the case. This happened at CERN if I recall correctly.

E ≠ mc² is correct, because of my hypothesis that E = mc² + $

(I worked in nuclear energy and $ was always a big factor.)
 
I hope the results are repeatable. It would make physics more interesting for a while. Perhaps someday the theory of relativity will only be an approximation to a truer model, as Newtonian mechanics was to relativity.

Well if they have mass they have inertia, so their velocity stays constant without a force. And if they’re massless they travel at the speed of light.

But I’m not educated in particle physics.

There is no explanation for the expansion of the universe. Was it a comic book you read? Captain Marvel, or Superman? It is so hard to remember comic book titles.

… my dear friend ,

… i long suspected to the point of being certain really there were things that travel faster than light speed in our world , but of more interest is the apparent absurdity that the relativists and mathematical physticists sit down by balckborads writing calculus equations and correcting them until they hope they make sense to explain the mysteries of creation and the univerese , cosmos and all , and most never even bother to use natural observation anyomore …

… and they seem to have the goal and expectation that eventually individually and collectively they are over time going to produce a calculus equation to explain absolutely everything , absurd really , their dreaming if they think they can do this on a blackboard , and in any case the final equation that explains everything , but without the beyond infinite theory , just the simple perfect answer is " love " , so there , problem solved , but can they conclude this with a calculus equation ??? , no , they cannot , and even if it were possible they’d never figure it out , but great discovery you mention , sort of knew it though …
