Ear rings ok. Piercings no. Why?

I respectfully disagree. When we are in the Lord’s home we have a duty to show respect and reverence. If you were told that you were going to be meeting the queen of England tomorrow, would you wear dress clothes for the occaison? If you would, then you should at the very least be dressing with dignity for presentation to our Lord since He is the king of the queen of England! 🙂
I’m all for respect and reverence, but I can also see that people whose taste is different from mine may not be acting out of any wrong motives. In that case, it is the intolerant busybodies who are wrong.

I am not young, but I when I was, the prejudices of the elders often seemed misguided regarding the motives of my generation. This may sound crazy, but my generation’s parents were all bent out of shape over HAIR. Can you believe it: H A I R ! And they were as upset about it as people get over tattoos and piercings today. I don’t much care for that stuff either, but I’d feel like a hypocrite if I mounted my soapbox and started blowing like the old fogey that I am.

The Catholic Church teaches the inerracy of Scripture.
Yes, but it doesn’t teach that the Scriptures should always be read literally. The Church recognizes that the much of the Mosaic laws, particularly the legal codes in Leviticus and Deuteronomy, are not binding on Christians. For example, it is okay for Catholics to eat shrimp or lobster, despite the prohibition in the Book of Leviticus.

I am trying to think of a reason that I would be willing to meet the Queen of England, but nothing is coming to mind. I suppose if Elizabeth knocked on my front door, maybe because her car broke down out front or got a flat, I would invite her in and offer her a coke or lemonade, but I doubt I would change clothes. She might be a nice lady when you get to know her, but from the public image she seems pretty stuffy and stiff, not the type of person with whom I would choose to spend free time.

I did wear a suit and tie last year for my daughter’s wedding. That is cause she and my wife made me. It was the suit or life would be miseable. A happy wife is a happy life.

Honestly I think the queen would be much happier at one of my neighborhood BBQs where everyone is relaxed and casual and having fun, than all dolled up all the time hanging out in palaces in starched gowns and funny hats. Really. Think about it. Why would anyone want that, but I guess each to his own.

I just can’t imagine all the royal this and that makes anyone happy or normal. Look at what happened to her kids. I can’t think of a soul who would trade places with Charles. It is not just that he has to wear funny looking clothes and a skirt sometimes. He seems very unhappy all the time. I can’t remember seeing a picture of him smiling.

Interesting tangent. Who would have thought that a thread on piercings would touch on Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles and their happiness?

🙂

Hair styles are changeable and long hair is cutable. Tattoos and piercings are not so easily reversible.

I was interviewing a young man a few months ago and mentioned that if I were to hire him, he would not be permitted to wear his earrings to work because earrings on men was incompatible with the (somewhat conservative) corporate culture. He was unhappy with the idea because it was his way of “expressing himself.”

Guess what? I didn’t hire him.

I really wouldn’t worry too much about it, God doesn’t care about your fashion style does he? Leave that stuff with the Muslims.

I don’t know, does He? Do you have some inside track to know what God is thinking?

When I see people at Mass with tattoos, I don’t think much of it because they may be new converts or something. But the one thing that I cannot handle is those things in the ear that expand the skin into these huge, huge circles. The girl at Subway the other day had holes the size of golf balls–I had to look away. Ewwww.
This may be an uncharitable part of my sense of humor but I have been tempted for a little while to go out with a combination lock and and find someone with one of those and randomly walk up to him/her and lock it to their ear and run off. It would be a little funny. I don’t think I would ever do it but it would make me laugh.
