Early AM mass- has its time passed?

I personally wish towns that have more than one Catholic church and several priests would all ‘get together’ and vary their weekday Mass times so people who work, have kids, etc. could attend Mass. Most of them are early in the morning, which doesn’t work for people getting kids to school. It would be awesome to have an early morning, mid-day, and evening Mass occuring everyday in town instead of all the churches just having a morning Mass.
 
Here in Trinidad, West Indies, there are early Masses - the parish I attend has 4 weekend Masses - 6.30 pm Saturday, 6.00 am and 8.00 am and 6.30 pm on Sunday. (Actually, while it is building a conference center on the grounds, it now has an additional 10.00 am Mass on Sunday - I forgot about that!).

Weekday Masses are 5.50 am and 9.00 am Mon - Fri, 8.00 am Saturdays and Public Holidays.

In the City there are two churches with Mid-day Masses Mon - Fri, and the Cathedral has an evening Mass at 5.30 pm (I think).

For us 6.00 am is not very early, since most people get up at about 5 - 6 am anyway! And, with year-round daytime temperatures at about 90 dgrees F (32 C), the early Masses are cool! I do not know of any parish church with airconditioning - just fans.

I usually go to the 5.50 am Mon to Fri, an 8.30 or an 8.45 am on Saturday, and 8.00 am on Sunday.
 
At my parish, (a Dominican, not diocesan one), the early Mass is at 7:00, weekdays and Sunday. At the nearest diocesan one, the early Mass during weekdays is at 8:15. (I don’t know what it is on Sundays.) Suits me fine. We usually go to the 9:00 on Sunday at our parish, and I agree that to go to a later Mass is just a waste of your morning (it seems) . Personally, timewise, I like the 8:15 best. If I could have whatever time I choose, I think I’d pick 7:30, it would fit right in with my schedule.

Oh yes, and at the near(est) convent people are always welcome for the sisters’ daily Mass, which is held at 7:00. They also have Divine Office beforehand, a great treat!!! 🙂
 
My home parish has a 6:20 a.m. Mass each weekday and a 6:30 a.m. Mass on Sunday. The parish nearest my office has a weekday Mass at 7:10 a.m. It’s a great blessing.
 
Weekday Masses are at 6:30am and Saturdays at 7:00am at my Novus Ordo Parish. Sundays go at 8:00, 10.00, 11:30 and 1:00pm There is also a vigil Mass Saturday evening at 5:00pm.
 
7:30 is our earliest Mass.

Brain, you hit the nail on the head as to why the majority of people attend the early mass. My family and I would always rather sing with Sister than cringe along to the concert stylings of two to which you refer.

In summer which is long, hot and drippy, ladies talc and dresses are like soft tea cakes in the humidity (very poorly remembered from to Kill a Mockingbird), our chapel is really really warm so

0715hrs Mass is the best Mass if you want to beat the heat

My father told me ages ago that the very early mass was called “The Golfer’s Mass” so they could get out early and go play! (Keep in mind that he was quite a joker)

That 2:30 AM mass in Pittsburgh may have been for factory workers getting off the midnight shift. That way they could go to Mass and not have to stay up. (just brainstorming here).

I go to 11:00 Mass because that is when the choir sings. If I weren’t in the choir, I would go to the 8 because I agree that the day is too chopped up by going then.
 
Masses at Sacred Heart, a sizeable parish in my town, are 7:00, 8:30, 10:30 and 12:30. I go to the 7:00 because I also attend a Presbyterian church with my wife and kids at 9:00. And generally there is singing of a hymn at the beginning and ending of the Mass only, as the priest enters and exits, and he leads the singing unaccompanied. I kind of like it that way. Old school.
 
A parish very close to us has 6:30 AM Mass every day. It’s nice to be able to go and get to work, too!
 
I live in Chas., S.C. in the West Ashley Area. There are two churches in this area, and they seem to work it out so that we have a varity of times. Blessed Sacrament, my parish has weekly Mass at 6:30 - which I attend because I have to be to work at 7:30. St. Joe’s at an 8:00 A.M. daily Mass. This:clapping: gives you an opportunity to find a good time.

On Sunday, our earliest Mass is at 9:00, St. Joe’s is at 8:30. I never really gave it much thought, but realize how fortunate I am to have such a variety of times for Mass. Something for everyone!!! Still on Sunday, the 11:00 A.M. has the largest attendance.
