"Ultima Ratio:
In the last post on the previous page I provided a number of quotes from Papal encyclical to show that the Church teaches the complete inherency of the Bible.
And yet it is not inerrant, as the story of Joshua and the sun testifies. We now know that the sun doesn’t move around the earth, as the writer of Judges assumed.
So you don’t believe what the Church teaches?
Now, since most people today consider scientists to be completely infallible in all they say, what I am about to say will surely shock you. Why? Because what I am going to say is contrary to what most people consider to be a scientific fact.
Not only is there no proof that the sun does not move around the earth, there is actually more and more scientific evidence to show that the earth is indeed fixed, and that the sun moves around it.
I know that statement will shock you, since, like most people, you may consider scientists to be infallible, but it is true. And what else is true is that just about all the scientists will admit that they do not know if the earth, or sun, is fixed. They don’t know, and they openly admit to not knowing, although such admissions are usually not broadcast on the nightly news (for obvious reasons).
So, why would you believe that the sun does not move around the earth? The Bible doesn’t teach that, the Church doesn’t teach it, and the scientist admit that they don’t know. On the contrary, the Bible says that the earth does not move.
In addition, according the the Council of Trent, and Vatican I, we are required to interpret the Bible in accord with the unanimous consent of the Fathers; and the unanimous consent of the Fathers is that the sun moves around the earth.
I just started reading the two volume book titled:
Galileo was wrong; the Church was right. This book begins with about 30 pages of quotes from major scientists admitting that they do not know if the earth moves around the sun, or if the sun moves around the earth. These 30 pages are then followed by one scientific experiment after another that confirms that the earth is indeed fixed and the sun moves around it. And these experiments were performed by scientists who do not believe this. It is fascinating to read the scientists admit what the evidence confirms.
The point is, don’t reject what the Church teaches over what you think sceintists believe. Even if they did all claim that the earth moves around the sun (which they don’t); scientists change their tune every year or so. In my opinion, scientists are the most discredicted people out there. Why anyone would take one of their theories, and reject what the Church teaches is beyond me. I can’t even comprehend it.
