Hello,

My diocesan director of social action (seems to be very concerned about the earth as opposed to anything else) is constantly sending out what I call “tree hugger” agenda stuff. He NEVER communicates on the topics of the unborn…EVER.

Anyway. he is pushing people to attend the EARTH CHARTER conference that he is “hosting” (with diocesan funds no doubt)

Could anyone tell me or point me in the direction of info on the Earth Charter.

I get the funny feeling that population control is involved.

Please feel free to P.M. me.

Don’t know if anyone has read that Wiki article. But when a movement is associated with individuals like Maurice Strong (Chairman of the Earth Summit) and Mikhail Gorbachev, then you really need to raise a red flag.

Check out the backgrounds of these two individuals.

This is directly from the charter earthcharterinaction.org/2000/10/the_earth_charter.html:

“…An unprecedented rise in human population has overburdened ecological and social systems…”

" …e. Ensure universal access to health care that fosters reproductive health and responsible reproduction…"

“…a. Eliminate discrimination in all its forms, such as that based on race, color, sex, sexual orientation, religion, language, and national, ethnic or social origin…”

I can’t see any problem with any of these statements. Nor can I see how they are in conflict with any of the teachings of the RCC.

On the face of it it appears not to be in conflict, but this wording is what is typically used by supporters of abortion and contraceptives to control population (i.e. zero growth movement) and supporters of homosexual rights (i.e. same-sex marriage, and homosexual adoption).

“…An unprecedented rise in human population has overburdened ecological and social systems…”

Translate: The earth is overpopulated, therefore we must control population growth.

" …e. Ensure universal access to health care that fosters reproductive health and responsible reproduction…"

Translate: Women must have control of their reproductive health through, unlimited access to abortion and contraceptives.

“…a. Eliminate discrimination in all its forms, such as that based on race, color, sex, sexual orientation, religion, language, and national, ethnic or social origin…”

Translate: Sexual orientation is the same as race, sex, religion, etc. Therefore homosexual couples should be able to marry, adopt children, etc. and other people can not disapprove of their actions even if the disapproval is based on their religion.

The devil is very cleaver at using words to disguise evil. Do not let the words fool you.

Hmmm  … I don’t know anything about the organization, but the lines from the charter sound like code to me. And depending on the meaning of “responsible reproduction” the possibility for conflict would seem apparent. I would be disturbed about my diocese being lead in this direction without some explanation.

Yes, but should we assume that any secular organisation who mentions these issues has an evil agenda?

Of course one should check the facts. But the OPs sceptism doesn’t seemed to be based on anything other than speculation.

Taken on face value, all of the causes listed up were worthy causes.

How does the Earth Charter verbiage tie in to the Catechism of the Catholic Church?

Just sayin’ … the language makes me suspicious, and apparently the OP too. In a secular context, what does responsible reproduction generally mean? My diocese … I find out more.

I’d agree that the latter two are generic enough to be interpreted in any number of ways-

On the other hand, the first statement quoted from the charter operates on the assumption that overpopulation exists and that it is a problem- which is definitely contrary to Catholic teaching for several reasons. To name one reason: the idea of overpopulation operates on the premise that at some point the moral quality of bringing babies into the world changes from being a “good” to being a “harm” to society and the world, which implies that God’s instruction for humans to “go forth and multiply” was somehow wrong or misleading.

Instead, the Church teaches that the problems attributed to overpopulation, such as starvation and poverty, have been always been problems for human societies- and have generally been consequences of irresponsible or selfish use of our resources or the result of natural events that resulted in the loss of water, food, or property.

Anyway, that’s another topic for another thread…

But the line about overpopulation leads me to 🤷 suspect that the organization’s positions on other two statements are probably inconsistent with the Church, too.

I support population control because I think it would be harder to fight poverty with more people on Earth.

Each of those “more people” is a gift from God and each one has the potential to make new scientific discoveries that will advance mankind.

Is it true … what you have said … that you have no actual life work experience?

Arguments that you raise would have more credibility if you had some life experience in what we call … “the field”.

Folks need to get out in the world and experience real life, not make believe life experience on the net.

Seriously, folks need to experience what is going on in Africa or Venezuela or some of our government agencies … so they can see for themselves how government schemes on managing the lives of others don’t work or work against the advancement of mankind.

What do you by “each”? Do you think most people are capable of making scientific discoveries? Do you think people with Down Syndrome are capable of making scientific discoveries?

The world doesn’t need more poor people and it doesn’t need more misery.

And I most certainly do not support Venezuela or most African governments.

It only takes one or two geniuses to make quantum improvements in the world economy.

But not if we abort them in the womb.

There is no reason why folks who understand biology, chemistry and physics cannot develop additional processes for conversion of commonly available materials into liquid fuels. Just keep in mind before doing this in your basement, … that this stuff is volatile, flammable and explosive. [Don’t do this at your home basement laboratory.]

Folks interested in all this application of technology to new processes, should read about Hall who converted aluminum from a precious metal into a common everyday household product. Aluminum is one of the most commonly available elements in the earth’s crust, yet until Hall came along it was locked up and unavailable.

Read also about the work of Tesla:

These are geniuses who devised fabulous economic progress through technology. They didn’t sit around and say that the world’s population must be reduced. They worked at applying their genius to solve problems facing humanity.

One wonders how many geniuses have been killed in the womb by abortion. Perhaps one of those killed babies might have come up with a new process for creating a liquid fuel from our earth’s crust using hydro power or solar or cosmic radiation.

AND … just in case someone gets the idea that we need abortion to eliminate undesireable unwanted deformed babies who grow up to be deformed adults who produce nothing, … read about the work of Charles Steinmetz:

Not to mention Edison or Westinghouse.

The notion that each and every human being is valuable derives from life as a Gift from God. A miracle. Every heartbeat and every breath is a miraculous gift.

Have you ever considered that the “construction” … the way the Planet Earth is constructed … is a miracle in itself???

Would any rational and reasonable earthling have “designed” the Planet Earth the way it appears to be actually built?

With a flaming hot, molten rock core … 7000 miles in diameter and a paper thin crust that insulates us from the heat.

I hate to tell you this, but that heat and magnetic field are energy sources. The Planet Earth is a virtual infinite source of energy.

Get to work and start to tap into it.

Someone figured out how to extract aluminium at almost no cost. Remember aluminum (or aluminium as the rest of the world spells it.).

So get to work, show us your brilliance and get that geothermal and magnetic energy harnessed!

Either that … OR … join the “Man Will Never Fly” club. It meets at Kitty Hawk, NC on the day before the anniversary of the Wright Brothers first flight.

[Maybe YOU could be the inventor of the Warp Coil! ]

Well, if you really want to create more geniuses, why not support eugenics then?

Do you know how much energy an aluminum smelter uses? It cost a fortune to extract.

Prior to Hall, aluminum cost more than gold.

Now, aluminum is just another metal used daily for such esoteric things as soda cans.
