Adam and Eve?
The creation stories are stories of how Almighty God created a man and a woman, our first parents, and what they did and how they served God, by naming the animals. The single parent story has been sustanciated by modern science by our common DNA. We are all related, we all have the same parents, we all are brothers and sisters. How we got here is a mystery, the rest is history.
Love:):):)🙂
Our closest cousin is the chipanzee at 1.5% below us in DNA.
:):):):):)🙂

Are we not unwooly mammals too? I always thought that dinosaurs were lizards not animals!
Isn’t that funny, I really don’t kknow what I’m talking about.Sorry, I will leave now.:o:o:o:o:o:o
In post 29 you mentioned that Soft tissue can not surive 100 years. A Wooly Mamonth was found and they have the tissue!

We did not come from Apes or chimps.

Is there anything in the Bible that you believe is real?
Did you ever hear of Biblicial Archeology Review? bib-arch.org/

Are you really a Catholic? Do you ever talk to a Priest about these issues?

Ha Ha! All mammals have some hair…don’t they? And of course lizards are animals. 😃

Dear me…a God driven process of gradual change is a theory accepted by the Catholic Church. It is an atheistic process that is forbidden.

The Church does not [any longer] teach that Adam and Eve were real people.
does not seem likely when the creatures are made before Adam&Eve. In the second story, it is explained that all in creation was created with Human in mind and the purpose being Human.

I do not believe this at all! Life did not come from the sea! Humans and Animals do not evolve! If the earth was closer or further away from the Sun we would freeze or burn! The Moon controls the tides. I can not believe this all happened by accident or a “Big Bang”!

Why is our moon the only Moon in our Solar System not to Rotate? We see the same side all the time? It happened before??? When??? This sounds like what a Atheist would say?
I do not believe that the thought or any theory towards evolution or any big bang theory should shake or even create question whether or not God created the Earth/Universe. why should it? dinosaurs mentioned or not mentioned; 7 days or 7 billion years - it does not matter. You don’t agree with it? that’s fine, but I don’t think it should carry such a defensive response either.

Yes, you are free to beleive what ever you want and stll be a great Roman Catholic. My opinion is that the Bible Story is mostly leading mankind to the salvation of Jesus Christ, The Holy Bible is to me a book of insprition not of history or sceince. Yes god could have made the wod just as you say in six days and rested on the seventh. I personally think he used the free-will of nature to elolve these things under His guidance, but , what do I know.:):):):)🙂
The Jewish culture used the ‘Old Testament’ as historical documentation, hence the various family trees, countless numerical accounts, graphical description, and historical relation (I mean the events listed matching several other historical documents from other cultures. for example, Egypt and Moses. Those events are depicted not just in Hebrew history, but Egyptian as well. If the Bible was not historical, then Moses is a metaphorical story line to emphasize characteristics rather God’s Miracle Grace.) So you could say that genesis is not historical as humans could not have been present for the beginning. However, the Creation story depict various stages in which multiple theories of science support or follow. “Let there be Light” = big bang theory.

Open to everyone:::
I would like to point out vary interesting notice. One theory towards the start of life in general on Earth suggests an asteroid. Why? because nothing else makes scientific sense since life can not come from nothing, but only other life (God is Love = God is Life). interesting that another asteroid hitting Earth explains death to dinosaurs or their disappearance. many studies through out science explain humans would not be able to exist with dinosaurs. The story of the world ending comes with an asteroid hitting earth. interesting no?

Malleus: Understand the concept. To clarify - The SCRIPTURES are WRITTEN by GOD. Is it your position that the Scriptures were written merely to record Natural History for the benefit of Man? I said it wasnt written like a Man writes. It is the product of GOD. Is there history in it? Yes. But is that its purpose , merely a History Book? I say no. Its much more than that - much more complex - much more multi layered than any book written by any man. It likewise contains Spiritual Truths. For example - When Jesus said :

In the Holy Gospel According to St John :

6:47. Amen, amen, I say unto you: He that believeth in me hath everlasting life.

6:48. I am the bread of life.

6:49. Your fathers did eat manna in the desert: and are dead.

6:50. This is the bread which cometh down from heaven: that if any man eat of it, he may not die.

6:51. I am the living bread which came down from heaven.

6:52. If any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, for the life of the world.

6:53. The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying: How can this man give us his flesh to eat?

6:54. Then Jesus said to them: Amen, amen, I say unto you: except you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you shall not have life in you.

6:55. He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood hath everlasting life: and I will raise him up in the last day.

6:56. For my flesh is meat indeed: and my blood is drink indeed.

6:57. He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood abideth in me: and I in him.

6:58. As the living Father hath sent me and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, the same also shall live by me.

6:59. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Not as your fathers did eat manna and are dead. He that eateth this bread shall live for ever.

Mal: So in your opinion - is this Scripture written as a historical account merely to record what Jesus said to some Jews right after He performed the miracle of the multiplication of loaves and fishes OR does it have a much greater meaning on a spiritual level? Certainly Catholics who understand the DOGMA of the Real Presence understand this passage in a much deeper manner than those who do not or those who reject Christ entirely like the Jews that left and no longer walked with him. But the event happened historically. So once again - Is it writtten by GOD for History alone? I say no.

Yes there are people who deny that Scripture is believeable or that they can decide to throw out that which they disagree with ,

But while they endeavor by this line of reasoning to prove and plead for the Catholic religion, these new apologists are more than willing to grant and to recognize that there are in it many things which are repulsive. Nay, they admit openly, and with ill-concealed satisfaction, that they have found that even its dogma is not exempt from errors and contradictions. They add also that this is not only excusable but – curiously enough – that it is even right and proper. In the Sacred Books there are many passages referring to science or history where, according to them, manifest errors are to he found. But, they say, the subject of these books is not science or history, but only religion and morals. In them history and science serve only as a species of covering to enable the religious and moral experiences wrapped Up in them to penetrate more readily among the masses. The masses understood science and history as they are expressed in these books, and it is clear that the expression of science and history in a more perfect form would have proved not so much a help as a hindrance. Moreover, they add, the Sacred Books, being essentially religious, are necessarily quick with life. Now life has its own truths and its own logic – quite different from rational truth and rational logic, belonging as they do to a different order, viz., truth of adaptation and of proportion both with what they call the medium in which it lives and with the end for which it lives. Finally, the Modernists, losing all sense of control, go so far as to proclaim as true and legitimate whatever is explained by life.

We, Venerable Brethren, for whom there is but one and only one truth, and who hold that the Sacred Books, "written under the inspiration of the Holy Ghost, have God for their author’'19 declare that this is equivalent to attributing to God Himself the lie of utility or officious lie, and We say with St. Augustine: "In an authority so high, admit but one officious lie, and there will not remain a single passage of those apparently difficult to practice or to believe, which on the same most pernicious rule may not be explained as a lie uttered by the author willfully and to serve a purpose."20 And thus it will come about, the holy Doctor continues, that “everybody will believe and refuse to believe what he likes or dislikes in them,” namely, the Scriptures. But the Modernists pursue their way eagerly. They grant also that certain arguments adduced in the Sacred Books in proof of a given doctrine, like those, for example, which are based on the prophecies, have no rational foundation to rest on. But they defend even these as artifices of preaching, which are justified by life. More than that. They are ready to admit, nay, to proclaim that Christ Himself manifestly erred in determining the time when the coming of the Kingdom of God was to take place; and they tell us that we must not be surprised at this since even He Himself was subject to the laws of life! After this what is to become of the dogmas of the Church? The dogmas bristle with flagrant contradictions, but what does it matter since, apart from the fact that vital logic accepts them, they are not repugnant to symbolical truth. Are we not dealing with the infinite, and has not the infinite an infinite variety of aspects? In short, to maintain and defend these theories they do not hesitate to declare that the noblest homage that can be paid to the Infinite is to make it the object of contradictory statements! But when they justify even contradictions, what is it that they will refuse to justify?

(Oh and BTW before you try to argue with me - Right after “disagree with” - the rest of the words are those of St Pope Pius the X from “Pacendi Domenici Gregis” (36)

“deeper manner”? Jesus performed miracles. He did things God can do. It concerns me whenever people bring what they call science here to correct various parts of the Bible. Do you believe Eve was formed by God from Adam’s side? Yes or no.

God bless,
Ed

If you attempt to subordinate the Bible to the latest scientific beliefs, then you end up not only rejecting much of the Old Testament, but also the Resurrection, the Real Presence, the Immaculate Conception, the Assumption, Jesus raising the dead, etc, etc.

Yes! I do belive that God took a rib from Adam and formed Eve!

Howdy all…I was just noticing that Michael Francis closed another thread where the big E word was discussed. So…I think I’ll just mosy on down the road and avoid getting into trouble. 🙂

What does the church thing about dinosars? they were around 160 million years ago and this happend. news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20100304/sc_nm/us_dinosaurs_asteroid my qustion is, if God put humans on the earth by the end of the week of the very first few days of the earth…ummm were humans around when dinosaurs were two? or does the church teach that the earth was not literly made in 7 days but thats only a metaphore or something? if theres anything in the bible that i find contradicting , its this…what do you think?
The second creation story was a beautiful song, a poem, the people of God couldn’t read or write, they memorized the story to try to understand God’s love for them. It is amazing that the seven days that they chose to tell their story is accurate to day, we do have a seven day week. After the earth was formed and dionasars roamed the earth then came the ice age, and the dionsars were killed and woolly mamals ruled the earth after this time about 50,000 years Almighty God chose to create man-kind as we are today. This is when the story began, 50,000 -20,000years ago. After alll of the dionasars and cavemen and woolly mammals have dies during the last ice age, there were two different ice ages I understand. Non of this is important, only what is in the apostles creed and the ten commandments and the Catholic Church teachings.

It matters very much. Do you believe Eve was formed from Adam’s side by God? Do you believe there were humans before Adam? And if so, who were they? Human origins has a tremendous effect on how we perceive ourselves and other.
I believe God made Adam and Eve; I am inclined to take the creation story of Genesis literally, unless God through the Church should reveal something contrary.

I say it is a rather immaterial issue because I once embraced the evolutionary theory as well as the literal creationist proposition, and in the end neither one changes the necessity of Christ, the truth of the Church, or the need for a return to a truly Catholic society.

My faith isn’t so weak as to be influenced by lesser things as the origin of life.

The Book of Genesis is not a scientific book; it is about the beginnings of the Chosen People of God and their relationship to God.

Chapter One of Genesis is a concise response to the ancient Mesopotamian and Babylonian creation myths, one at a time.

Since the development of science, the Church has found that there is nothing found in the Universe that can be contradictory to God, since He created it. The Church is open to the scientific theory of evolution but does not commit to it. Even if evolution is proved true at some point, the Church teaches that it is GOD WHO creates the soul, not matter.

There are many ways of reading the Bible - as literature, as history, as salvation.

Is it our place to try to understand the mind of God? Must we understand the mind of the great artist to understand the work of art?
