Easily offended when someone curses, is this normal behavior?

Hello everyone. God be with you.

As you know, like everyone else. I use to curse and foul language. Since my reversion of the faith for over a year. I have finally overcome it. I found out that I could no longer tolerant people cursing, not even in movies. I have easily become disguised when I hear someone say the F word… or the A word. Is this normal? I even get angry when someone says the Lord’s name is vain, even if these are not directed at me.

I mean am I taking this too serious, or should relax more?
 
I think it’s fine. Sensitivity to sin is important. Besides, I don’t think all that cussing and swearing is civil or polite.

The Spirit of God, Who dwells in you is offended by cursing, foul language, etc. I believe your feeling offended or disgusted is due to your spirit/soul desiring oneness with God. However, we must be careful not to reactto other peoples errors or sinfulness in a way that judges them. ( For we all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God) Romans 3. IA friend of mine used to work with a gentleman who took God’s name in vein daily, My friend prayed, and decided one day, to quietly, say “Praise you Lord Jesus Christ” everytime the other man cursed. Not in a judgemental way at all. The gentleman eventually stopped cursing. I appreciate your service to our country.
 
Thanks, am I the only who is sensitive to cursing? I hope not.

I don’t know. I feel the same way. I kinda get “embarrassed” for God when I hear his name used in vain. I feel as though I should apologize for that person to God.🤷

Yes, I feel the same way. Since my reversion over 7 years ago, I cringe when someone uses profanity. I just don’t understand the need to use crude language…it serves no useful purpose.

Does any particular foul language upset you more than others?

Vulgarity: F-word, etc
Swearing: using God as a witness
Cursing: Asking God to damn someone
Vain: Using Gods name in a useless or trivial manner

Some of these seem to me to be worse than others.
 
There needs to be curse words since something needs to describe a person who is doing something worthy of being called a curse word. Something needs to describe a situation worthy of cursing. You might say replace those words with something else but how do you think curse words are invented in the first place? Now taking the Lord’s name in vain is perhaps never acceptable so it should be avoidable and replaced with a curse word or non curse word phrase in my opinion.

I think it’s OK Manny. Of course I’m just speaking from my own experience. I didn’t really cuss that much…but I tolerated it from others; but I can’t do that anymore; it is so offensive to me now.

I dont know why you are concerned about when you “even get angry when someone says the Lord’s name is vain, even if these are not directed at me”, because it is right that you are uncomfortable with those words.

I won’t advise what to do, but please realise that taking the Lord’s name in vain is worse than saying other swear words which are not directed at anyone.
