Do the East and the West recognize the process in which canonizations is performed as valid? And if not . . at what point do we not share the same saints, 1054? The reason I ask, and I made this clear on this post several times, is that I served with the NATO KFOR US contingent in the Serb province of Kosovo for 2 years. I worked most in the preservation of Serbian Churches and had close contact with its senior leadership. I attended DL and numerous feast days dedicated to their most holy saints, SS Sava, Uros, Stefan, etc. I never took communion in the DL or performed any sort of reverence towards the relics of their saints, but wondered now if I could have or should have?
I loved the DL I was present for numerous ones and on Easter and it was just spectacular. The extent of my participation in the DL was to bless my self at the appropriate times during the DL, in the wester style which was frequently pointed out by the Serb Priests, to kiss the Icon that was on display, light candles, etc. I had an Icon made for me by the monks of the Visoki Decani Monastery, it is “Our Lady of Decani”… it is a beautiful work of the Theotokos and the baby Jesus.
Many thanks
