Then again, my kids aren’t going to be given the option of believing in any secular thing that takes their focus away from God on His Holidays. I’m sure I’ll get yelled at by some mother someday because my kid told theirs Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny are not real.

What about St. Nick? My parents never got into doing St. Nicks day with my sister and I, but I do it with my daughter. I am contemplating telling her that St. Nick or Father Christmas brought her gifts, and emphasize the giving-ness of the holiday, rather than the getting-ness.
I guess I just feel that St. Nick or Father Christmas is far better? You could relate Father Christmas back to God, giving the gift of His son to the world? I’ll have to think more on that one…

Which brings me to my next point, but it might be best to start a new thread. Just having discovered my first baby will arrive in early December, should one buck the system and not endorse belief of secular icons such as Santy Claus and the Easter Bunny?

I am leaning towards telling my children they do not exist, but are fun stories based on some factual or historical figure. At least Santa anyways…

Forgive me, but I can’t wait to get my kid hooked “A Christmas Story” however!

I see nothing personally wrong with our little ones believing in Santa or the wascally wabbit. I have one child who was born in December 2005 giving me only two Christmas and Easter Holidays with him, but our philosophy is no presents or eggs until AFTER Mass. My thinking is to instill both what is important and the discipline to wait.

Of course I may find it was a bad idea when he is old enough to understand that those things under the tree wrapped in cheap paper are fun toys. I’ll let you know in a year or two!

Well, here is the response I got.

The organist did NOT play Here Comes Peter Cottontail. There was a traditional
recessional hymn. I dont know where she heard that! We are just making an
attempt to include the children. However, in the future, the Easter Bunny will
wait outside so no one is offended. I am offended that anyone would think I
would permit such a song to be used in church. Give me a break!
I pray that there was also something in the Liturgy you liked. I would be glad
to meet with you to discuss this matter or any other.
May the Peace of the Resurrected Lord fill your life.
