Does anyone decorate for Easter? When do you decorate and how? How long do you leave your decorations up?

We do! In past years we have gotten the Easter decorations out after we put up the St. Patty’s Day stuff. This year, though, I wanted to focus on Lent as a season, and focus on the solemnity and hope of it. So, we have just decorated the house with a few Lenten reminders (the color purple, a crown of thorns and some other things). Saturday we will get out all the Easter stuff - lots of bunnies and eggs and spring colors and flowers, as well as the kids’ baskets. Since we’re “late” getting them out, we’ll probably leave them up at least a couple of weeks. Saturday’s also the day that we’ll remove the rest of the thorns and paint and decorate the crown.

I usually do but this year things were bad. I decorate for each holiday except the summer ones. Generally I’ll put the decorations up a month a head of time so I put up Halloween the last weekend of Sept. Thanksgiving comes out Nov 2ish, Christmas the fist weekend after Thanksgiving and Easter normally the weekend after Ash Wednesday. The St. Paddy stuff shows up about the first weekend of March.

We decorate a little. Buy some tulips and put out the nice tablecloth. We put out the Easter eggs too. We don’t leave things up nearly as long as we do for Christmas time. I wish we had more North American traditions for Easter time.

I’m curious what other people’s traditions are for Easter.

we’ve decorated for easter for probably 20 years.

on holy saturday, we cut a branch from the lilac tree and put it in a big jug with water (and rocks to hold it in place.)

we decorate it with little easter decorations from the dollar store. the kids string colored mini marshmallows. the easter holy cards i used to hang on it are all gone-- i wish i’d replaced them. we bring down our beanine baby lambs (why do we have 6 or 7 of them? i don’t know) and i set them on the table with the easter tree.

we decorate our weeping cherry tree outside with plastic eggs on holy saturday (unless the weather is real wintery-- this year it will be gorgeous.)

we leave all this up the whole easter season. the coolest thing is this: over time, the cut lilac branch buds, then leafs out. it’s so neat.
