A closest friend recently disclosed that he has not gone to confession for several decades and yet receives the Eucharist every Sunday. I was stuned and knew not what to say or do. So, I’ve started to pray and spent alot of time in front of our Lord in the tabernacle praying for him and my response. So, a few days later, I was further shocked when he asked me not to worry about it.
He suffers from diagnosed anxiety disorder (more specifically social phobia and panic attacks) and takes medication for the problem and is starting to have some results on a new medication after not gaining any healing for years while on the medication. He maintaines that his inability to attend the sacrament may have something to do with his anxiety but is not sure. He states he doesn’t know why he can’t go to confession. I’ve turned this over to the Lord and am conifident in faith of his Mercy for my friend. Is there anything the Church encourages one like myself who has the confidence of such a believer?
