Chocolate easter eggs might look fun but they’re not as harmless as they look. Chocolate comes from the Aztec and Mayan civilisations. In the Mayan society chocolate was considered toxic to women and children. Chocolate can also kill a pet by chocolate poisoning. Apparently the Mayan sacrificed dogs, which were covered in cocoa to the chocolate God Ek Chuah in April around the same time as Easter.

One of my brothers has epilepsy. One April, around the same time as the Mayan festival, he gorged himself on chocolate eggs and took a fit. He covered himself in chocolate like one of the dog sacrificed to the chocolate God Ek Chuah. (True story)

I’d sue the Church for not warning us about chocolate.

Honestly I don’t know what a response to this posting is… I take you at your word regarding your brother, on that note I’m very sorry for you. However I see no reason for the Church to “warn” us about chocolate. It’s a food item, and it has been for many hundreds of years. It has no known religious significance, in it’s current form found in the west, rather it is an indulgence and as such has the standard warning of over indulging.

What an absolutely stupid thing to say!! Grow up!

Air has been used by pagans for centuries. It has been used in all of their services and sacrifices. Air has even been used in the prayers to pagan gods! Prior to Christians using air, pagans used air.

We had better stop using air in our daily lives and worship!

We should sue the Church for not teaching us about air.

Well it appears that insanity is genetic.

You don’t drink herbal teas, you don’t cook with spices, you probably can’t use salt (the pagan Romans used salt for money for soldiers), you don’t eat chocolate. If you cannot do anything that has been touched by a pagan society, what can you do at all?

I’m just passing on information. I’m not saying that all epileptics are dogs, but I’m saying my brother was nearly sacrificed like a dog due to a lack of information about chocolate. He didn’t die he just took a fit and covered himself in chocolate. My parents said it was really weird. We’d never heard of Ek Chuah at the time.

This is my source from wikipedia:

The Maya celebrated an annual festival in April to honor their cacao god, Ek Chuah, an event that included the sacrifice of a dog with cacao colored markings; additional animal sacrifices; offerings of cacao, feathers and incense; and an exchange of gifts. In a similar creation story, the Mexica (Aztec) god Quetzalcoatl discovered cacao (cacahuatl: “'bitter water”’), in a mountain filled with other plant foods (Coe 1996, Townsend 1992). Cacao was offered regularly to a pantheon of Mexica deities and the Madrid Codex depicts priests lancing their ear lobes (autosacrifice) and covering the cacao with blood as a suitable sacrifice to the gods. The cacao beverage as ritual were used only by men, as it was believed to be toxic for women and children.

budgie2 nothing you have said in either of your posts have made any kind of sense. Is there a point at all to you posting or were you just bored with nothing better to do? Seriously I have no idea where you are going with this.

And let’s not forget about fire. Fire has been used for millenium in pagan rituals. Some pagan sects even worship fire gods! And yet we continue to light candles at Mass, use fire to light incense and even (gasp) allow our children to gather around the fireplace in the winter to keep warm.

We should definately sue the Church for not teaching us the pagan origins of fire.

Now I think I will go put some chocolate flavored creamer in my coffee (also from the Mayans :D).

I don’t think the problem is the covering in chocolate, I think the problem here is that someone in your house almost accidentally sacrificed your brother.

“Oh no honey! I accidentally put on the pagan sacrificial priest robes and I’m now accidentally holding the sacrificial knife and about to accidentally make the sacrificial sacrifice!!”

Yes, I am being mean, but hopefully it makes it apparent how ridiculous this is.

Or the Earth, or trees, or birds, or pets, or gold, or jewelry, or the ocean, or water in general, or the sun, or the moon, etc. etc. etc.

“Those pagans! They stole our moon!”
“That’s no moon, it’s an idol!”

Why don’t you just not eat Chocolate and be at peace with yourself about your decision?

It can’t be that toxic or the majority of us would all be dead from chocolate consumption. If you don’t like Chocolate, don’t eat it…

Did the Church buy him the eggs?

Did the Church force him to eat them?

Did the Church cover him in the chocolate?

Did you really think anyone would take this seriously?

The egg is symbolic of the tomb.

Sue your parents for not managing your brother’s diet.

Why do you threaten to sue everyone all the time? It makes you sound simple.

Did you mean “tomb”, or “womb”?

“Tomb” would actually work for me, I am majorly allergic to chocolate.

It is really not in the Church’s purview to do so. If you must sue someone, sue your brother’s health care professional(s) for not warning you about chocolate.
