I don’t normally either…but I thought a small gift would be nice. In some ways, I am surprised that we don’t do more to celebrate the biggest holiday on the Christian calendar. Having said that, I would be fine if Christmas wasn’t such a big “present” holiday.
That’s a nice idea. He likes to read, so he could even use the holy cards as bookmarks. I think I will go to our local Christian store and see what’s there.I think a Saint Medal, a special Rosary of some kind, or just a few holy cards of favorite saints or with scipture on them to put in the family Bible/Catechism would be nice

I know what you mean. I’ve had conflicted thoughts about the topic. On the one hand, Easter gets so much less attention than Christmas, you’d never know it was so important. On the other hand, I rebel against the idea that gift giving has to be a part of an event to show its importance, and the whole materialism thing in general (which I admit to being a part of too) really bugs me. I guess I see the increasing emphasis on gift giving at holidays as a creeping secularism, and this is my way of trying to preserve Easter from it. Not that that is yours or anyone’s goal here (being secular). I do like the bookmark/holy card/ something religious idea. If you’re into corny things, you could make a little certificate for him that says, “In honor of Christ’s Resurrection, during the octave of Easter (or the whole season if you like), I will do ____ for you” (take over a chore or something).
I hear you, but it turns out that, despite the fact that store is called a Christian store, this one has everything Catholic in it. I ended up getting him a card with the face of Jesus on it (from the Shroud of Turin) and a gift certificate so he could come back and buy what he wants. Both fit nicely in his Easter card!
