So I have been Catholic for 17 years now (converted in 2001). At Mass on Easter Sunday, the priest at my parish did NOT do the renewal of the baptismal promises during the mass. I have never seen that omitted before- is that valid? After mass, I went over it with my kids because it is essential (I don’t know if that is valid either though because it is supposed to be done by the priest) but it is TOO important to skip in my opinion. Is it ok that he omitted it?

It is optional. I can’t provide you with a quote, but if you have a copy of the missal yourself, look at Easter Sunday, and you will find that it is optional.

I Googled it - and found an old thread here. Does this help?

The renewal of baptismal promises is a powerful rite. Of course, the Creed is very similar. I am sure that you can pray either with your children.

I feel it’s important. I often have people try to tell me my infant baptism was pointless because it was done before I could remember and I point out that as Catholics we do renew these important vows regularly.

For the Easter Vigil there is a renewal of baptismal promises. But for Easter Sunday “At the Mass during the Day” the Roman Missal has:
“The Creed is said.
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––
In Australia, England and Wales, and in Scotland: The Creed is said. However in Easter Sunday Masses which are celebrated with a congregation, the rite of the renewal of baptismal promises may take place after the homily, according to the text used at the Easter Vigil (p. 418). In that case the Creed is omitted.”

Obviously I am quoting from the translation approved for Australia, England and Wales, and Scotland.

We renewed our baptismal promises at the Easter Vigil and tonight (Divine Mercy Sunday.) Fr. asid we would omit the creed as it was part of the renewal promise.

Perfectly valid.

It’s an option. He can do it, or not do it. It’s his choice.

It is perfectly OK.

In the Philippines, the priest may omit the Renewal of Baptismal Promises during the Mass at Dawn of Easter Sunday (a local custom with approved texts - if the customary Rite of Salubong is done during the dawn of Easter Sunday) or the prinicipal parochial/cathedral Mass during the Day (if the Salubong is done after the Easter Vigil). If that happens, the Creed is said. But in other Masses during the day, the Renewal is done.

then why is the renewal of baptismal promises written into the Easter day mass?

FrDavid96 - Thank you!! That makes me feel better. I wish he had done it, but as long as it was valid I am ok (after all, I should promise to deny Satan and his evil works daily!) =)

When we recite the creed we pretty much renew our baptismal vows every Sunday.
That is why when the renewal of baptismal promises are made, the creed is not recited.
