What do you mean? They put Him in a tomb specially carved out of rock. It wasn’t just some cave, it was a specially made stone burial chamber or tomb.

It was prepared originally for Joseph of Aramithea though, not for Jesus, but Joseph donated it to lay Jesus’ body to rest in.

This is what happened to a lot of deceased people’s bodies in Israel at that time, and was and is a perfectly appropriate thing to do for Jews and Christians, I don’t know the Muslim view of it. Although if I recall, the patriarch Abraham (Ibrahim) is recorded in the Torah as being buried in an actual cave - the cave of Machpelah.

Not everybody. Joseph of Arimathea asked for the body of Jesus from Pilate and put him in a tomb (that was meant for him) that was carved out of the rock and laid the body of Jesus there. What don’t you get? Even from the time of the early Israelites the Jewish people were “buried” in caves or tombs. Why does that strike you as odd?

if you listened to any of the passion accounts proclaimed this week or read them, the answer is clearly stated. the sabbath was approaching and the body had to be interred before sundown on the sabbath. The tomb was nearby, had never been used, and the body was hastily wrapped in a shroud and head cloth and carried to the tomb. None of the usual burial preparation or rites were done because there was not time. that is why the women returned on Sunday morning with spices, to anoint the body, and prepare it properly for burial.

No need to be rude to the man. He is just trying to understand. Not everyone in this world has had the privalge of growing up with churches and and abundance of Christian teachings.

For some, a movie may be the only exposure they have had.

Tom, the garden was where Jesus began what we call His Passion. He began to sweat Blood there as He took upon the sins of all mankind so that they may be forgiven. The Blood was necessary as this “new and everlasting covenant” was, in the Jewish tradition, a Blood Covenant with God and a blood covenant will never ever be broken by God. Of course, that Blood continued to be shed until His death on the Cross.

His tomb was a borrowed grave set in the rock and covered with a mighty large stone. As said, it was bought by another for his own future purpose and given to the family of Jesus as a gift of love.

This mighty stone was rolled back by angels who bore witness to the fact that Jesus was no longer there, lying dead on a stone slab. Indeed, He had Risen. “Why seek ye the Living amongst the dead? He has Risen” they told all who came to the tomb to care for His Body in the tradition that was at that time.

Dear Tomshaikh,

It was a custom for the Jewish burial at Jesus’ time. They did not bury the dead body underneath the ground. They just laid the body inside a cave. The cave as a round stone which covered the entrance. After a while, when the body has decomposed, they would place the bones in a certain box, and put the name at the box. By doing that, they made place for a new dead body. The current practice has changed as far as I concern.

Dear Swariffin,

Is it not disrespectfull for a body to do this all thing which you mentioned in your paragraph. Are Same thing will happened to The Prophets of Israelitist. i wanna mentioned few prophets. Abrahim, Issac, Jacob, Joseph, David, Solemon etc etc. This is really disrespectfull if they do same thing which you mentioned in your paragraph. Well one should find out about this burrial thing when go to Israel and see with there own eyes or ask to the take care of tomb site person. How King David and Prophet Joseph and Abrahim buried there. Are you guyz are 100% sure what you said about the burrial procedures. That’s All

Yep, that’s generally it. Had Joseph of Arimathia or someone else not asked for Jesus body it would have been thrown on a trash heap or buried in a shallow unmarked grave, which was the lot of the poor and those executed.

Note that in the Story of Lazarus being raised from the dead, he was in a cave that was made into a tomb.

The disciples hastily laid Jesus in the tomb, placed coins on his eyes to keep them closed, covered his face in a manner similar to Arab Islamic burial customs, wrapped his body in a linen cloth, placed some of the flowers and spices they had on hand untop of the body and then took off to make it back to the city before sunset.

The women came back on Sunday morning for two reasons…to finish the funeral prep of Jesus body, and to make sure he was dead…it was the custom back then to check on the deceased within two or three days to make sure they were really dead.

Thanks for the addition Yerusalyim. To response further to Tomshaikh, modern Jews do not follow this kind of practice any more. The scarcity of the land available for burial under this way may be the main reason. In other culture, including the Chinese, it is also disrespectful just to lay the dead family without burial under the ground or without cremation.

Well from this it is prove what Quran says that he will not be crucified neither killed by those people who wanted to kill him. where it says the procedure which you all told about jesus. See how Quran is perfect. It can’t be happened because he is already raise up into the heaven. Most christian donot celeberate Easter and christmas coz they donot know exact what happened to jesus. Guyz Quran told you all what happened to him. And Quran is authentic and last book from God. So i donot believe in you guyz i want the prove from some book but again that book is not from God. Anywayz Quran says the truth. WoW…Open your eyes guyz before you die.

This post makes no sense. How does laying Jesus in a tomb after he died on the cross make the Quran perfect? If you are going to make that assertion, you need to support your argument clearly and with logic.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again…

History tells that a significant crucifixion took place on Friday 3rd April 33AD. Islam says it wasn’t Jesus. Can Islam offer any truth as to who was crucified and whether or not they survived?

Well, so much for a person who believe in a deceiving God. I wish him luck that the God he believes or the holybook he believes will not deceive him. Problem is, he will not know that the God he believes will not lie again, and we can already see this. Sorry to know that he is wrong. We are in much firm position since our God is a faithful God who will never forget what He has promised. Our God is the source of certainty, so we are certain that our God will not deceive. If God the almighty can lie people while also can punish people who fall into the lie, then what good it is for human just to become God’s lab experimental being.

Dear Tom,

Why do you think MOST Christian does not celebrate Easter or Chrismas? If you see no Easter nor Chrismas celebration in an ISLAMIC STATE, then I can understand that you come into such a conclusion. Even in Indonesia where the largest muslims live, the Churches are full up to the parking lot.

Do you know that the administrator of Indonesian largest mosque (The Istiqlal Mosque) let us the Catholic park our cars into their parking lot, and even provide security? It happens during Easter and Chrismas celebration. In return, we provide our parking lot for the muslims celebrating major Islamic holidays. What a nice coexisting experience we have. That is one good example of Islam as a pieceful religion, as I see it from an outsider point of view. Too bad, if such good experience could be tampered by irresponsible person twisted your holybook verses to justify their evil acts. I believe you should stand guard avoiding your holybook which you claim to be authentic from God, from being twisted so easily to justify evil acts.

I think it may have had something to do with those who believed in the resurrection of the dead. Perhaps those who did not believe this were buried in the ground; those that did were buried in caves to make it easier for them to emerge on the last day.
