I don’t know if this is the appropriate forum for this question but hopefully someone will be able to answer this. In the bible. Matthew, it says that Jesus descended to the nether world for 3 days and 3 nights after he was crucified. So, Considering the Church teaches that Jesus died sometime in the afternoon of Good Friday and rose on Sunday morning that doesn’t add up to 3 days and 3 nights. Even if you count Friday as a day he would have to have risen Sunday night or Monday morning to make the 3 days and 3 nights. Or he would have had to have been crucified on Thursday afternoon or night. What’s the answer to that dilema?

This is the Jewish way of counting days-- any part of a day is considered a full day.

I think the “discrepancy” is simply the way in which we reckon days… Jewish days started at sundown. So by their reckoning then; Jesus was crucified, died and buried on Thursday (Friday by our reckoning) - day 1. When the sun went down on Friday (Saturday for us) - day 2, and when the sun went down Saturday (Sunday for us) – day 3.
