Although blessed candles in Easter Vigil belong to Sacramentals instead of Sacraments, I don’t know where to put this thread.

Every year the faithful will receive a blessed candle during Easter Vigil. This year is a bit special since I will be baptized in the coming Saturday and we will be given a special, blessed white candle. I want to keep it well at home but there are no candle holders of suitable size I am aware of, both on Internet stores and in my local Catholic bookshop.

Any idea on how to deal with blessed candles? I don’t wanna throw it away…

Your Baptismal candle is very special, try to keep it in it’s original box, or wrapped so it is not exposed to heat and light. I still have my children’s and they are 43 and 44 years and in perfect condition. (I plan to give them to them some day, when I think they will appreciate them more).

I’ve never known the tapers we use at the Easter Vigil to be blessed. I know they haven’t been in the parishes I’ve belonged to over the last 30 years and probably for the reason you’re concerned: how to dispose of them afterwards.

Our baptismal candles come in individual boxes which have a place for recording the details. Perhaps that’s what your parish will use also.

As far as making them fit in a candle holder, just let the lit candle drip into the socket and then place your candle in the still liquid wax. When the wax hardens your candle will stay upright.

I also use a bit of saran wrap around the base. Works fine. But keeping it in the box will keep it from getting dusty.
We take the Baptismal candle out each year on the anniversary of the girls’ Baptism and use it like a celebration candle at dinner. Light it, and quickly blow it out, like a birthday candle. That way you can remember your special day at Easter dinner, and it will still last you for years. 😉

PS: What makes your candle Special is the fact that it is lit from the new Easter fire flame on the NEW Easter candle. All Baptismal candles are lit from this, each time a person is Baptized.
Welcome!

When a friend of mine got married she wanted to find a way to incorporate her baptismal candle into things. Unfortunately her husband-to-be no longer had his so it didn’t work out, but I thought it was a nice idea. Perhaps they could have been the candles used during Mass.
