Hi,

Does anyone know where I might be able to find the notation for chanting the Gospel in English at the Easter Vigil?

Many thanks

Thanks for taking the time to have a look, I’ve had no luck so far :crying:

I’m assuming you mean in English; I don’t know where to find English tones for the Gospel, but for Latin, the Graduale Romanum provides 3 tones starting on page 805. You might be able to adapt one of the melodies to English, they’re pretty simple.

Matt,

Do you really mean the Gospel? If so, then there’s nothing ‘special’ about chanting the Gospel on Easter Vigil – it follows the same forms as the Gospel readings of any Mass. There’s an appendix in the Roman Missal, IIRC, that gives general instructions on how to chant any Gospel reading.

Is it possible that you mean the Exsultet, rather than the Gospel? If so, then see “The Pascal Proclamation” at npm.org/Chants/proper.html

Hope this helps!

G.

Hi guys,

Yes I do mean the Gospel. I know the norms can be found in the missals etc but I was wondering if anywhere had got that particular Gospel laid out, just to get it spot on.

Thanks for the suggstions 🙂

Short of purchasing a complete book of the Gospels by Adoremus ($400 ), I haven’t found anything more than the guide on how to chant the Gospel and the written out passages. I have found no site to print a particular Gospel in music form.

Revised Common Lectionary (Episcopal Version) Gospels - Also NRSV translation and not NAB and chant tones are different.
The second one is in Latin.
I just found the music, that’s all. Not promoting or discounting anything.
Thanks

Looks like Liturgical Press has one, although it’s in two voices: litpress.org/Products/3462/sung-gospels.aspx?MenuId=9212

I wonder whether you could just pick one of the lines and chant it?

Also, I found this one from CanticaNova: canticanova.com/catalog/products/g_bsg.htm

Anyone have either of these, such that you could comment on it?
