Easter Vigil Vestment

Last night I went to the Easter Vigil. we were wondering why the pastor, who was celebrating, did not enter wearing te chasuble. It was on a hanger at the front of the church near the alter area. He didn’t put it on until a certian point, I forget when though. The other priest who was concelebrating had his on the whole time.
 
Did he put it on before the Gloria?

Strange, but I do believe the technical start of mass, and so the part in which he may think he is required to wear the chasuble, is at the Gloria.

But the chasuble should be worn throughout.
 
Maybe so he didn’t set the vestment and himself on fire during the lighting of the New Fire. That scares me silly every year, especially when they reach in with the lid to put it out. I just picture poor Deacon Henry going “POOF!”

Becausr the initial Rites are not part of the Mass. The main celebrant vests at the beginning of the Mass.
 
He was probably wearing a cope. The cope looks like a cape. If you’ve seen any of the Papal liturgies, that is the vestment that the Holy Father wears when he is presiding over the Liturgy of the Hours. My PV would wear one when he served as rector of the Cathedral. He wore it during Holy Hour liturgies as well as for the transfer of the Blessed Sacrament during Holy Thursday and during the first part of the Easter Vigil. Afterwards, he would change into the chasuble.
 
Perhaps he was baptizing people in immersion and got in the water himself?
 
no he wasn’t in water. i am pretty sure he had it on for the sacraments. i don’t think he was waering the cope thing. He was wearing the white gown like thing and i think a stole. but i forget.
