Easter Vigil was AMAZING!

My dear brothers and sisters 🙂

I have just been to an Easter Vigil Mass with my mum, dad and brother and
WOW! It was stunning. I’d been to Easter Vigils before but it really hit home this time.

The bonfire outside, the candles, the darkness, the procession, the bit of Latin (always nice 😃 ), the choir was BRILLIANT (THE VOICES!), the lighting
it was so well choreographed, moving and powerful that my spirit literally exulted. Everybody was so impressed with the priest, our Monsignor (there were 3 priests on the altar). The singing was sublime.

I can’t even find the words. And to see the catechumens being received into the church
some people beside me were in tears!

After today’s Mass I could not help but think that Catholicism is very much alive. Sad to say that the Mass was not COMPLETELY full (I wish they’d recorded it!). I wish more people had been able to enjoy it!

All the Christmas-Easter goers are going to be there for Sunday Mass tommorrow morning (which is always packed to the brim you can barely move) but I wish everyone would go to the Vigil
its just incredible.

If anyone is in a different timezone from the UK and still has time - get to the VIGIL!!! 👍

Yes, the Vigil, when properly done, is Amazing. We are about to head up to our Vigil to be done in the Extraordinary Form. A Solemn High Mass.

I LOVE THE TRIDUUM!!! We have a couple of hours to go yet and we have the added benefit of having our 17 yr old son baptized tonight! I’m so excited you posted your pleasant experience. Happy Easter!

The Easter Vigil Liturgy is by far the greatest Liturgy we all have.

You can watch ours via the internet, at stjosephpekin.org/live-mass/
It starts at 730 pm Central Time.
 
Mine’s not for another 6 hours. Still have time for a nap so I can make it to 2:30. This truly is a vigil.
 
Finally after so many years, I was received with full communion into the Church. BEST DAY OF MY LIFE! Or to be exact, my life didn’t begin until today. HAPPY EASTER everybody!! 😃

Mine was magnificent!

I was book–bearer and MC, which was not an easy task! We had three out of seven Old Testament readings, but only a cantor and a spoken GlĂłria in excĂ©lsis Deo. One man was baptized and confirmed and another was confirmed.

What about the Exultet?? Did you have that?
 
Ours was very nice. I did the Litany of the Saint, first reading and Psalm. We had one real curve ball. Our priest gave the introduction to the Gloria in Latin, which we had not prepared. Fortunately, I still had a stray copy and after the first few lines I was able to find it and a few of us were able to sing. it. We said later he only meant to introduce it in Latin, but was glad to know we were prepared for anything.
 
My parish’s Easter Vigil was amazing. It went very smoothly this year. The choir was fantastic as well as the organist. I just love all the “smells and bells” of big solemnities like Easter.
 
I also kind of have a buzz going on now because of the Vigil. I can’t wait to go to Mass tomorrow morning. I only have about four hours until I have to get up! 😃
 
I forgot to add that our only baptisms this year were all children. It was so nice to see them become members of Christ’s Church!
 
I’ve not been to an Easter Vigil Mass for several years as I preferred to go on Sunday morning for Easter Mass. But it was so worth it. There was the blessing of the fire, beautiful music throughout, the candles, all 7 readings from the Old Testament, the lights coming on then singing the Gloria, then the Epistle and singing Alleluia and the Gospel. After a brief homily, there was the blessing of the water, the Litany of Saints beautifully chanted, baptismal promises renewed, sprinkling of water, 1 woman and a boy were baptized & confirmed, about 12 people were confirmed, and then all of the newly initiated later received the Eucharist for the first time.

To close it off, one of my favorite hymns: Jesus Christ Is Risen Today. The opening notes always send a shiver up my spine and touch my heart a lot. So many proudly sang loud the closing hymn including myself.
