I don’t know if it’s a common practice but I read the daily reading from the Synaxarion which comes along with the daily reading in an email for I receive from
goarch bottom of the page: “Subscribe to the Daily Readings List to receive daily emails containing Scripture readings and Lives of the Saints.” I like that the email comes to my cell phone email so I have the day’s readings with me wherever I am.
Also from a recent thread elsewhere: “Each of the liturgical services of the Byzantine Catholic Church, with the exception of the Divine Liturgies and the sacraments, can be celebrated without a priest… referred to as
Reader Service…this order of services is also suitable for use in the home.”
I think that’s much more than what you’re asking about but it’s a nice reference on an website with some good basic liturgy info: daily cycle, weekly cycle, tones, Liturgical year etc. from a BCC parish. It came up re resources for families who live in areas where they have no local option for Divine Liturgy.
For something scholarly on the Office
The Liturgy of the Hours in East and West by Fr. Archimandrite Robert F Taft, S.J.
Recently there was a thread about sources for Readings and Gospel for the Day. Unfortunately a number of the links posted there are no longer functional. These seem to be working still. At least one is a podcast. I can’t remember if there are any other daily podcasts from monasteries or seminaries one could tune in to. :
“Dave Brown…has done a wonderful compilation…
Byzantine Catholic Daily Prayer and Lectionary …”
“You can download the
Melkite Cyber-Typicon from Father Peter Boutros’ site and the
Melkite Synaxarion is available at Father Ron Golini’s site.”
“the Arch Eparch (Ukrainian) in Canada has the complete Byzantine
lectionary”
“St. Luke’s Byzantine Catholic Church does a daily podcast of daily prayer and readings… You can even download the
podcasts for free.” **
