CIX!

Any other EC Knights out there of whatever particular Churches? In my experience and membership the Kof C is a great organization and has been very supportive and encouraging of our churches. The Knights underwrote an excellent publication in their Veritas series about the Eastern Churches written by His Grace Bishop (now Emeritus) +Basil Losten of the UGCC.

I plan on joining the KofC this next month… but it will be through a Latin parish, as I am not close enough to an Eastern Catholic chapter…

Rony - we also have Councils in some of our bigger UGCC parishes in the US and Canada. Like SS I now live too far from one of those and joined a very welcoming Latin Council.

Vivat Jesus!

Third Degree Knight here! Charter member of a council formed through a Latin parish in my home community about seven years ago.

Proud to say that I was able to convince my all-Latin council to financially support a Byzantine Catholic seminarian a few years back. Not an easy task at first, but ultimately a GREAT educational opportunity. Small steps! - had to first overcome the “We only support Catholic seminarians” mentality. Once past that, had to overcome the “We only support seminarians from our own diocese” mentality. This took illustrating to them that our council resides not only within the boundaries of the Diocese of Joliet, but also within the boundaries of the Eparchy of Parma. Long story short - my Latin brethren are now MUCH more aware of the Catholic East than they were a few years ago! Heck, they don’t even tell me that I make the Sign of the Cross backwards anymore! 😃

I say all this not at all to brag, but to hopefully urge my fellow Eastern Catholic Knights of Columbus to USE YOUR UNIQUE POSITION TO EDUCATE!! You may find that many, if not most, in your council may not even be aware that there are Catholics who are not Latin… what an opportunity you have! The Holy Spirit led you to membership in your council for a reason - trust Him!

By the way, Father Deacon Randy is correct; the Veritas publication on the Eastern Churches produced by the Knights of Columbus is actually very good… I urge you to pick up a copy. You can request a free sample copy through the Knights’ web site (there is a fee for multiple copies, but individual samples are free) or, occasionally, an order form will appear in Columbia magazine.

Side note: As a young Byzantine, my dad and other men from the parish belonged to a group known as the *“Catholic Knights of the Eastern Rite.” * Haven’t heard anything of this organization for probably 40 years or so now… in fact, I don’t even know if it was a universally-recognized organization or if it was specific to our local parish. Anyone else know anything about the “C.K.E.R.”?

Vivat Jesus!

I am a 4th degree Knight, of the Archbishop Ryan Assembly and the John a Forsting Council.

I have served on 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree teams over the years… and explaining why I “make the sign of the cross backwards” is a wonderful way of introducing many ignorant but well meaning brothers to the practical side of the universality of the church.

Many respond with “I thought that was an Orthodox church!” when I tell them where the Byzantine parish is in Anchorage.

Well said, Al - I will be taking my 2nd and 3rd Degrees in a month. God bless.

Are there many Eastern Catholic knights?

I do know that there are fraternal and self help organizations specifically for Greek Catholic men, I would think that extant societies like the Greek Catholic Union would really cut into the possible interest in the KofC among them. How many groups can a single person belong to?

I am 4th Degree Knight…granted, not in the Eastern Rite, but a brother Knight none of the less…God Bless you…wouldn’t mind dropping in on one of your meetings…I think that would be cool.
