This is great.

I’ve noticed that Orthodox mission parishes in the South of whatever jurisdiction have tended to be pan-ethnic, with a mixture of musical and other traditions, and generally English as the principal (if not only) liturgical language.

Have comparable Byzantine-rite missions in the South had the same experience?

I really would like to know.

Well the mission doesn’t really have a lot of ethnic ukrainians currently going. We are attempting to tap into that . There is talk of introducing a Ukrainian divine liturgy since we now have a priest in the area that is fluent in Ukrainian.Currently we only have an English divine liturgy. Musically we use a setting written out by Bishop Robert. Its pretty good in my opinion.

Yeah we are still here. We still meet every Saturday at 5 PM. Sadly our pastor , who lives in Raleigh, has had some issues as of late and so we have been meeting regularly to celebrate Vespers and on occasion a typica service presided over by one of the NC Byzantine deacons. We are still around and if you are in the Charlotte area, please come on by sometime : ). We always love to have new people attend.

I did attend there for many months. As a Eastern Catholic it was nice to have a church in the area. My wife and I thought it strange to be the only ones in attendance. It seems to have never gotten off the ground. That church is just not for us. I wish them the best.

The Eparchy of Passaic is getting ready to open it’s mission in Myrtle Beach. They purchased a home with a couple of out buildings and several acres of property. They are in the process of converting one of the buildings into worship space. They have an ikonostas and altar as well as preparation tables. They have a bi-ritual priest lined up to have Divine Services on Saturday evenings…

I’ll posted more info as soon as I get it…

Христос воскрес!

While I am not familiar with the particular mission dynamics, the newer Greek Catholics of the Mid-Atlantic Protopresbytery (Eparchy of St. Josaphat, UGCC) have a page with all of the links of the six missions in the area: greekcatholics.com/home Fr. Deacon Daniel of St. Michael is a good friend and fellow worker in the UGCC mission lands.

Stick with it - you are planting the vineyard, the risen Christ is all-powerful, and sometimes the first crop doesn’t take. God will bless your efforts.

Keep checking forum for updates. Something will happen with the Charlotte mission in a few months. Pray…

This mission has lead to me to look at why I am Eastern Eatholic and why Orthodoxy is the truth. This mission did bear fruit. Peace.

Do you mean that Catholicism is not the truth? I’m not looking to argue, I just want to understand what you mean.

Blessings

That’s right. I know the Orthodox Church is the truth. Studying eastern catholicism has lead me to this.
