Eastern Orthodox and Philosophy?

I’ve read in many articles that one of the things that separates the Eastern Orthodox and the Catholic Church is its standing on philosophy and other things involved under the same category. For example, according to EO theologian Vladimir Lossky, the Roman Catholic Church uses pagan ideology (ontology and metaphysics) to understand the human being and its existence, but the EO uses a mystical, actual experience with God to understand. It basically says that the EO and RC have become different men because of this.

So, my question is, why not use philosophy and logic to help understand the world around us?

Personally I cannot see anything wrong with the use of philosophy and logic in helping one understand the world around us - and human nature also - and irrespective of historical factors such as who started it and when etc. Regarding the mystical - a little methinks apart from the philosphical area.
