I was reading some posts in this fourm a nd discovered they were very anti catholic. Why do they hate the church so much?

I am Orthodox and I have never heard of it. Having not read it myself I don’t know if your take on it is accurate or not.

We might just as well be realistic, there are Catholic forums that appear anti-Orthodox and Orthodox forums that appear anti-Catholic. You and I don’t have to be like that.

There are facts, and there are interpretations of those facts, or in other words opinions.

If you read something you don’t think is accurate, you always have recourse to the facts, you can’t do anything about the opinions.

Maybe they’re feeling constipated? 🤷 Some people are just angry. As articulate as those posts are, I probably wouldn’t give therm another thought. 😉

Why not?

Are they really articulate?

Are they factual?

Perhaps it is not intended as a debate format, then some people should leave it alone.

If they are rude they do not deserve our time and attention. I encounter rudeness on the internet a lot, we all do. They do not have a monopoly on that for sure!

I went there and read some of the post and there were many anti RC remarks. I am sure there are many RC that feel the same way about EO and that is so sad. Even though we have our differences I have alway thought of RC and EO as the same church founded by our Lord. The way I think of it is we are brothers in a long drawn out family spat.
I know it is not that simple but we are so much more alike then we are different. I think it is a very sad thing in the history of our church.

Let hope that when our bishops come togather they more of an open mind and heart.

The Orthodox Church, from what I have experienced in talking to some Orthodox and reading offical as well as unoffical Orthodox websites, has a spirit of anti-Catholicism and is very poor in understanding the Catholic Church. Why this is, I don’t have a clue, but I know the poor understanding of Catholicism is one factor that fuels the anti-Catholicism. Even on these forums, where Orthodox Christians have a wealth of resources on what the Catholic Church actually teaches and what the Catholic Church claims about herself, I see, from time to time, a poor understanding of Catholicism and a dislike of Catholics on part of some Orthodox. It’s sad. But I don’t hate them. Let’s pray for our brethern, that by the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary they may have a greater understanding of the Catholic Church and they may become members of the Body of Christ the Savior, the Deliverer of our souls.

Honestly I would agree with some of what they say, so maybe I am being a bit hasty in dismissing them. However, the way in which they say it it feels a bit blunt for my sensibilities. 🙂

I pray the same for you. 👍

I have similar feelings… may God bless you. 🙂

Sometimes the truth sounds anti-Catholic, even when it is not meant to be an insult.

Not much can be done about that. 😦

Any good EO sites that are not anti-RC? I don’t mind compare and contrast but can’t stand being told I am a heratic and so on.

But see that can go both ways. .

We can call you hertics and you can call us hertics but what good does that do?

The point is the Orthodox church thinks it’s right and the Roman Catholic church thinks it’s right. If we can’t get past this,

Whats Next?

Firstly ,I am talking about the Orthodox Church in kerala state,India. It has divided into two - One is called Jacobite Syriac Church who adheres to Antochean Patriarcah.and the second one is Indian Orthodox Church which is heavily pentecostalized/protestent-ized and it is our church on issue:

my experience with indian orthodox christians is ,they have not much informed about Catholicism.they blatantly claim(as a eastern christian POV) Roman Catholic Church is all about “romanization” or “Latinization” while this is very untrue as we have syro-malabar church and syro-malankara church etc who are preserving their tradition and in full communion with Rome.

Moreover ,I feel ,atleast in Kerala ,It is a “Tradition” -this anti-catholic hate without any valid reason.for example ,Indian Orthodox Church or Jacobite Syriac Church agrees in their core that The Patriarcah of Rome is the top most.(primacy-first among equals).

This anti-catholic feeling is why many a members of Orthodox church in kerala are falling prey for New Age Christian Cults with a Cultmaster who brain-washes the disciples.🙂

I agree ,orkut is not sane, but some discussions really are very much informative:

The anti-catholic hatred coming in a orthodox church is because- In Kerala(a state in India) atleast -the top clergy and influential laity among them are “hacked” to Pentecostal,Protestent(CSI/Marthoma) churches.now ,these people are destroying a very old church dispersing their members.:o

Sorry I don’t understand this post. I am a little slow please excuse me? What is you point?
Sorry…

It’s another game nobody wins.

Do you remember the movie Wargames?

There are two games nobody wins:

Tic-tac-to

Thermonuclear War

And now we have internet debate about religion…

The self-learning computer in the movie finally states “a strange game, the only winning move is not to play”

Nobody wins around here, the players just change sides every once in a while.

The problems between us will not be solved here, but at another level. The best we, as pewpeople, can hope for is to meet and understand one another a little better, and learn to appreciate each other. 🙂

That’s why the rudeness is not helpful.

Pax et Bonum,

I don’t know anything about the Indian Orthodox church. From your description it seems like it may have fallen prey to the same thing the Latin church has, with it’s large Charismatic movement and Protestant style liturgy.

But I do know the Jacobite church left the Syro-Malabar Catholic church after the Coonan Cross incident. After such a long time under the Portuguese Jesuits they had enough.

Apparently they could not get a bishop from the Church of the East, but the Jacobite Patriarch of Antioch was willing to accept them.

They must have been very unhappy to go to such extreme measures.

Well, why do some Catholics hate protestants? It’s opinoins my friend, just because one orthodox person on a forum, or even a group, or even the forum, means all Orthodox, or even a majority hate Catholics, just means those do.

As to a reason, maybe some of them are ex-catholics who were treated unfairly, or something of that sort, maybe they just need someone to hate.
