Eastern Orthodox Church questions?

That write-up might be slightly different for the Oriental Orthodox.

Also, Orthodox are opposed to abortion. A Greek priest was telling me once about a woman being unable to commune because she had an abortion, and this I believe was more than just a response to the shedding of blood inside her (as a miscarriage can temporarily lead to a not receiving communion out of respect for the life of the child which an Antiochian told me about) but rather because of the choice to shed it when it was against the teaching of the church.

EOs are also against birth control-I also spoke to the Greek priest about that. A Coptic (OO) site that I read before said that the exceptions were in the cases of financial ability to provide for the child, medical problems involved with pregnancy/giving birth, psychological issues, things like that.
Thanks !!! We are lucky an Oriental Orthodox has joined the thread. So, the Orthodox are against BC, and follow NFP. And, on Abortion …they don’t like it, but make a number of exceptions to allow its practice.

What has the USA Orthodox church(s) reply been to the HHS OBAMA MANDATE…as it applies to them ?

I am glad that you appreciate that. I am trying to answer with respect to the fact that this thread is about the EOs, not the OOs. I only know about exceptions from a Coptic website, and they may differ from the EOs slightly. Copts are very religious and fast more than anyone else, but the EOs seem slightly more stuck to the laws even though we share the same principles (don’t quote me though, I’m a convert with much to learn). The only clergy I have ever discussed this with was Greek and he seemed rather strict on the matter, like you need a darn good reason at least.

I am not sure what you mean by by HHS Obama Mandate, but I assume you mean the health care act requirements regarding birthcontrol and stuff. I expect they are against it. I haven’t always made it to church, and this hasn’t been a big topic of discussion at my church (Armenian usually), but I expect that it is in some way displeased. The Orthodox in the US don’t have the same political force as the Catholics. I know that Metrapolitan something or other was at the March for Life.
