BTW - You do know that Old Ritualist part of the poll is an attempt at humor and I’m curious if any actually use the Internet or visit this site.

My Orthodox buddies will understand that part.

You tell me…
It’s been several hours since the hammer dropped on the Eastern Christianity forum and I haven’t put in my 2 cents yet so here it goes. The questions that arise between Orthodox and Catholics are very different from those that arise between Protestants and Catholics, and to lump all of the groups together IMO will only lead to confusion and ultimately a less user friendly forum.

And just an aside, and no offence intended to my Eastern Rite Catholic brothers and sisters, I wonder if there will be enough interest in the new forum to justify this move.

I’m a Catholic that has no interest in becoming Orthodox, but I value the dialogue.

I do wonder if there were an Orthodox site with forums, if they would consider Catholics to be part of the Church?

I bet we are more charitable! But hey… I’m glad you are here… we need both lungs…

The Orthodox are not part of the institution called the Catholic Church, nor are they “universal” in nature and spirit, but firmly oriented toward the Greek and Byzantine cultural heritages, divided by regions and ethnicities, and closed in upon themselves.

That said,I think that the Orthodox forums should be brought back.

I am mainly interested in topics involving Protestantism. The Non-Catholic Religions forum is already full of threads relating to Muslims, JW’s, and Mormons. Adding another group to that mix will create a plethora of threads that I will be forced to wade through just to find something of interest. I may end up avoiding the Non-Catholic Religions forum altogether, since I do not wish to spend lots of time just searching for a thread that I am interested in and filtering out all the others that hold no interest to me.

I wouldn’t have a lot of interest in an Orthodox site if it didn’t have a Catholic forum. The primary reason I participate in any forum is to have a chance to take part in the discussions/debates that occur there. You don’t know how excited I was when I discovered CAF and that there was a forum devoted almost entirely to Orthodox-Catholic issues (being really tired of arguing with Protestants:p ).

I’m very sad to see it go.😦

I’m a Latin Catholic and I don’t really feel comfortable labeling the Orthodox as non-Catholic. While I believe that the Catholic Church is present in all the local churches in communion with the Pope, in their faith and practices the Orthodox have kept the catholic faith handed down to them even though they’re not in communion with us. There are differences between our churches but putting them into the same category as Protestants and other non-Catholic religions is definitely wrong, imho.

maybe there could be an orthodox sub forum under the non-catholic forum?

I agree with you. A church that has valid sacraments should not be lumped in with ecclesial communities that do not have valid sacraments or with religions that are not even Christian.

I suggest thread titles be tagged. Then you can easily see in the title or through a search threads dealing with specific issues.

EOOO or Orth or Ordx, Islam, TrAC, Ptst, JWit, Mormon, Pagan, etc.

(4 letters or more so that they can be found through the search.)

If you’re looking for Orthodox-Catholic dialogue and debate, then there’s nothing that’s gone. It just moved next door and you’ve already found it! If you keep it active and charitable, you might be part of it becoming its own sub-forum again.
I bet we are more charitable! But hey… I’m glad you are here… we need both lungs…
And I bet I’m more humble than you! 😛

Is the tagging something I could do, or would the Forum Administrators have to add a tagging system?

The person creating the thread would have to do it.

You could add tags in the body of the thread and then search by thread instead of by post, but you won’t see it in the thread titles if the original poster doesn’t do it. If you get a group of support, you could educate people on it and why you hope it will be implemented for the ease of all and make it a cultural rule for NCR by grassroots efforts within a few weeks, I would think.

I voted no, issues pertaining to Orthodox and Catholic issues do not belong in the Non-Catholic religions but deserve their own forum.

Not saying that the Eastern Catholics don’t deserve their own forum, but that the Orthodox should have their own forum as well.

NO, we don’t!

The Orthodox-Catholic dialogue is important, specific and active enough for its own forum, as was amply demonstrated.

Somehow, as an EO, I don’t feel like I’m still welcome at CAF… 😦

When I first came here, I was surprised to see it. It seemed like a service the catholics were giving. It was overwhelmingly Orthodox. It was cool. I am from the south. When am I ever going to hear Orthodox people talk? I don’t want to go to another board and listen to them. At least in CAF it was in a safe place where catholic dissenters could voice back. It was interesting to see the passion and knowledge of all.
There were three types of people. Eastern Orthodox, Eastern Catholic, Latin Catholic. I felt it was a pretty good ecumenical tool. It inspired me to want to try reaching out to Orthodox here in my own community. There are no Eastern Catholic here. A pie in the sky hope was a grassroots peace will take hold and spread from the bottom up.
I like the idea of SubForum with a little moderation. I don’t forsee the current format having the same amount of traffic.
On the other hand, The Easterns has so much of the same beliefs it could school the protestants whereas they would never venture into that forum anyway unless to bait an argument.

Voted no and I’m Eastern Catholic

Our beloved Brethren need a place to talk - this is no place for them .

Why do RCs feel so threatened by the Eastern ooooh I wonder if the few Orientals are included in this hybrid Non-catholic Forum  ] ?

We are few in number - yes we get a bit boisterous at times - but we are a family after all - just 2 sides of it.

I frequently find that I’m not understood by Catholics either - the infamous ‘h’ word has been applied to me

give us a break
