This question was brought up in the Eastern Orthodox forum but it was not answered due to fear of breaking the rules.

Specifically I wanted to inquire with the EO Catholics who Rome says are in communion.

Are, in your view, Latin Rite Catholics true Catholics? In other words, is there any reciprocation with being in communion. Do you view Western Catholics as ‘your other lung’ or in Communion with you.

Any (name removed by moderator)ut is great. Thanks guys

Are you talking about Eastern Catholics or Eastern Orthodox? They are different—Eastern Catholics are in communion with/submission to the pope and Eastern Orthodox are not.

oh which ones are which? like which groups are part of the eastern catholic and which are eastern orthodox?

I think the problem is that we accept the Orthodox but they do not accpet us. Then they began to call themselves Catholic and insinuate that we are not.

The recent turn of events is unfortunate but no amount of whining about it will undo the damage done by polemics and prosetylization without self examination and repentance by those responsible.

There was little unity desired in the old forum and to much prideful and obstinate intent to convert Catholics away from union with the Church which if you read the rules was strictly prohibited.

Strife has been squelched and peace restored. I say kudos to CAF!

Peace.

I not sure, but is this a reference, in part at least, that we do not make between validity or licitness?

I’ve often heard Latins complain how they recognize Orthodox Eucharist, but the Orthodox don’t recognize theirs. For us it’s a distraction: whether it’s the Body and Blood or not, we won’t be communing there.

I believe it is, and as I posted in erstwhile forum, going in a Latin church during adoration I prostrated, cross myself passing a Latin church, etc. But that’s my theologoumen, my personal opinion. If I debate the point with other Orthodox (and I have), in the end it still remains my personal opinion.

The same with orders. Latin priests have been received without reordination (which has never happened with Anglicans): that is the only time when the issue concerns us. If Latin priests are validly ordained, we don’t go to them for confession, baptise are children, commune their Eucharist, etc.

Sorry that you feel the Body of Christ is a distraction for you. When focus is on Him much less appears to be an error.

This is why Jesus gave us a Magisterium. So we don’t have to rely solely on our personal opinion but may have His guidance and wisdom through the Holy Spirit until the end of the age.

Yet they have been recieved without re-ordination. Seems to be a contradiction there.

You have indeed missed the gist of his point. Whether Catholic sacraments are valid or not is a non issue for most Orthodox as it has no practical import for them, since they are forbidden from communing with Catholics on other grounds. It only comes up when they are faced with a Catholic convert to Orthodoxy. Should he or she be baptized, chrismated or simply admitted to communion? There is no common Orthodox opinion.

The same applies to Catholic orders. Each Orthodox Church has its own views and practices on the matter, and probably a significant minority within each Church holds to a different view. You cannot generalize an Orthodoxy-wide position from this diversity. It’s simply not an issue on which Orthodoxy has made up its mind.

Irenicist

No sir I didn’t miss the point. I have heard this polemic opinion again and again that insinuates that one must believe as I do or I want nothing to do with him.

I countered the point with the contradiction as food for thought. A priest is rejected as valid unless he believes as they do. This reminds me of Levites.

Thats all.

Peace.

Why do some people love to throw around the term polemic when someone else defends their faith?
As for the original intent of this thread, YES, Eastern Catholics are in communion with Rome. Both commune with each other.

I’ll focus on where I know where He is.

No. Those received are our business. Those outside the Church are not.

They make a desert and call it peace (Tacitus). Rest in peace.

Christ calls us to reach out to the world with love.

Act 16:10 …concluding that the Lord had called us to announce the gospel to them.
They make a desert and call it peace (Tacitus). Rest in peace.
It certainly is peaceful. Shouldn’t it have been all along?

Joh 14:27 I leave peace to you; My peace I give to you. Not as the world gives I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled

Peace.

Hi, I’m Eureka007, I know that most orthodox have some concern about Latin Catholics. The biggest problem is papal supremacy. I feel the doctrine of purgatory and the procession of the Holy Spirit from the Father and Son, is the biggest issues.
Thank You,
Eureka007.

I agree, I do feel that Catholics and Orthodox have true and valid sacraments. I feel that they should haver inter-communion. I feel that both churches are true and valid.
Thank you,
Eureka007.
