Hahaha. Oh me, oh my…what have I done…

For the record (so you don’t hurt me) I was talking about soccer. Anglo Americans mostly don’t care about soccer. (I was going to make a Garry Kasparov chess joke, but Wikipedia said he’s from Azerbaijan and that’s hardly an Orthodox or RC country.)
There goes my Vishy Anand chess joke then …

Yes, it’s a sad day for the Orthodox Chess all over the world… :crying:

The term “ancient” is pretty relative in sports. The Niners have a proud history and five superbowls as well as a ton of hall of famers. Walsh is possibly the greatest NFL coach in history along with Bill Belichick and Bill Parcells. They should’ve done great things in the last few years but we’ve had so many coaching issues and for God’s sake we can’t get a good, consistent quarterback. With the new coaching we have I’m hoping we can finally at least GET to the playoffs. My Warriors? Now that’s another dysfunctional story…ouch:blush:
Oh I’ve seen Montana play unreal. The superbowl with the Bengals I remember like it was yesterday.

Its a bit of different game now, all sports. Its rare to see players put aside personal glory for a Championship. Where in the past this was pretty common.

Unfortunatly we see now when player reach an older age. Like with the Celtics. Or even with James now.

You now what should be a great series is the Heat and Mavericks.

I Love the Jets but in my book their QB is a bum. I heard the, its his 2nd season and well maybe it true. But I just see choke in his game.

I try to catch a Yankee/Red Sox game but they have become so insane. After what happened in Calif? You really have to be carefull. Especially taking the kids. Its just gets ugly down there. And I don’t drink or where a Team shirt. Thats like asking for a fight. 🙂

Many of the Soviet players were non-observantly Jewish actually.
It was a joke. Kasparov’s mother was Armenian, his father was Jewish. I guess that makes him an Orthodox Jew.

…thank you, folks…don’t forget to tip your waitress…

I never ever pull for anyone or anything from Texas. That’s my rule BUT I will pull for Dallas vs. the Heat as I can’t STAND LeBron and Wade. Also I remember Peja Stojakavic when he played out here for the Sacramento Kings. What a great team the Kings were circa 2000-2002. Awesome. Almost beat those Lakers a few times…I like Jason Terry and Dirk as well.

Well the Niners haven’t been good in a LONG time so I’ll pass on them. I’m more of a baseball guy. And the Warriors are pretty dang embarrassing…think I’ll stick with my G-Men!
No way. You want embarrassing, take the luck of the state I live in now, Virginia. Virginia has no teams of our own technically, but the Washington DC teams market heavily here. The Redskins, yeah they won 3 Superbowls but how long ago? The Wizards, have they ever been good? The Nationals are just the Montreal Expos with a new name, and then you have the Capitals…they’re good, Top seed in the NHL eastern conference last two years only to fizzle out in the playoffs.

Not to mention UVA Cavaliers nor VA Tech Hokies have ever won a football or basketball national title. VCU getting to the final four was fun, but they couldn’t even give us a championship. Yes, it sucks to be a Virginia sports fan.:mad:

That is why I pull for all the teams my family in Alabama does, the Tide and the Braves…the only one I pull for here is the Redskins. Thats it.

Where I live it’s pretty weird and divided. It’s kind of an ethnic thing that all the Mexicans pull for the Raiders and Lakers. Some pull for the Giants but many pull for the evil Dodgers! The white folks pull for the 49ers and most for the Lakers and a ton for the Giants. Then there are those teams in California that don’t do Jack Q. Squat. I will list them! LOL
  1. The Clippers
  2. The Warriors
  3. The Sacramento Kings
  4. The San Diego Chargers
The Lakers are our constantly winning team despite getting swept this year. When I was a kid I met Jerry West and Michael Cooper at a Lakers gig here in town. I got fizzled out on the Lakers when Kobe and Shaq came…puke.

The Raiders are a team of thugs and scum. Their stadium is violent, nasty, and looks like a scene from the Road Warrior or Thunderdome. “Two men enter…one man leaves!” 😛 At Dodgers Stadium they will fillet you or pummel you to death if you’re a Giants fan. They will dump sodas on Giants fans’ heads, throw their food at you, tons of beligerent drunks.

The Giants games are awesome, Sharks in San Diego, 49ers fans are clean cut, etc.

The Angels are a proud franchise but up and down. The Warriors…shoot they’re sad. I want to pull for 'em but dang that’s rough stuff!

I won’t drive into the city of Oakland on a dare! Oaktown has an insane murder rate per capita.

IMO Massuchasetts has the best sports stuff. Sox, Celtics, Patriots, good times in the last decade in that town!

I’m still mighty proud of my Giants. Last year was heaven on earth for me, heaven on earth. And we’re a respectable team this year. We’re losing tonight but we’re still top of NL West…👍

It’s pretty bad, yeah, but Richmond is even worse. If Richmond had a team, it’d probably be more like Armageddon (and I don’t mean the Bruce Willis movie…)

I can’t stand them either. I’d be surprized to see anyone beat the Mavs this year. They showed me a something against LA. They are playing at a championship level now.

The Lebron James thing being compared to MJ I just don’t see it. I think he’s very good. But a Ring this year I’m not seeing.

Whats a Steeler? Do they have a bad case of kleptomania…oh wait a minute, they play that there football where they get paid to play. What a concept.
Hey that Running Back for the Steelers? I can’t remember his name. But I’ll tell ya what he was running people over. He put up a couple of impressive performances in the playoffs.

The Pack just was destined to win. One reserve OL left. One starter in the secondary left. They changed there entire defense in 2nd half and go Zone and still find a way to win? They impressed me, improvise, adopt and overcome worked pretty well from where I was watching.

Yeah, that impressive running back for the Steelers (Mendenhall) fumbled on the go ahead drive when we had all the momentum. I blame him for the loss. I think he had a low petrine kinda game. 😃

YES…Your Right. Isn’t that something, the guy probly didn’t drop the ball all year. Most crucial part of the game he coughs it up.

I like his style though, you don’t see that in the NFL anymore. Greene put a couple games similiar together for the Jets, but more because of a non QB. Those two running backs I like. When you can eat the clock on the ground like that, thats big time relief on the QB.

I think you are a bit hard on the QB. Most teams would give anything for a QB like Sanchez. He has been to two Championship games in his first two years!

Getting the discussion back to the topic of Orthodoxy, I contacted the parish near me and the priest invited me out to attend either a Sunday service or he said I could go tonight to a shorter service called Vespers. What’s that like? How is it different and similar to a liturgy? He also said he would be happy to answer my questions afterward.
