So there is clamour here and there about the Pope’s recent homily in which he stated that Christ has redeemed all men and that those who lack faith in the Risen Lord, or otherwise ignorant of the Gospel, could be reconciled to God at the end of days if they lived virtuous lives and were obedient to Christ even in the ignorance of him. This is the essence of the message, not what Pope Fracis said verbatum. This follows the Catholic tradition of “righteous” or “virtuous” pagans. I have been looking for the EO’s position on this issue, but have not found a blatant reference for or against it. Does the EO Church agree with this view? If agreed, do their views differ at all? And could you please give why’s and why not’s? Also, references for imformation would be appreciated, though I certainly won’t make it a criterion.
