I know that the Eastern rites do all the sacraments of initiation at one time, including Holy Communion, for infants.

I was wondering–how does that work, in practice? I guess I’m just envisioning how babies, especially when they’re first learning to eat, always seem to make a mess. 🙂 I know a spoon is used, but what happens if a baby doesn’t swallow or spits out the Eucharist? Does this ever happen?

Just curious.

A few drops of the Holy Mysteries are placed into the baby’s mouth with the words of the priest, “Taste and see how good the Lord is”.
