**Eat the Body of Christ
**
Jesus commands us to eat His body and drink His blood;
He established His priesthood to make sure that we could.
When we partake in the Eucharist, we consume only Jesus,
And let His body and His blood completely transform us.
In the Gospel of Saint John, Jesus commands us to eat His body.
Jesus meant what He told us substantially and not symbolically.
Jesus uses a miracle to transform ordinary bread into His body;
Its essence is changed from bread to Jesus most miraculously.
In John’s Gospel, Jesus empowered His apostles to do the same,
And to pass this power to bishops and priests to act in His name.
When with the Church’s intent, they consecrate the bread and wine,
The bread and wine miraculously becomes Jesus on whom we dine.
The Eucharist while It appears to our senses to be just bread and wine,
Is in Its essence Christ’s body, blood, and soul, human and divine,
And when we consume the Eucharist, we consume our Lord Jesus
Becoming more like Him inside as we let Him spiritually transform us.
Jesus is the Bread of Life in the Eucharist our spiritual nourishment,
Given to each of us out of His infinite love for our lives’ enrichment.
Jesus lovingly feeds each of us with all of Himself in the Holy Eucharist
To help us grow more in His love to love and become our very best.
How all of this completely works is to humanity a wondrous mystery,
Know absolutely only by our most holy God in His majestic divinity.
We trust in faith what Jesus has told us in His Church and Scripture,
Knowing what Jesus has established in His great love will forever endure.
