Dear friends, I am really struggling with an eating disorder and I need help. I am ashamed and need help. Will you please pray for me?

Thank you…

Yes!!! Jesus, please rain down buckets of help & perseverance for our friend to overcome this illness! Thank you Jesus. We pray in your glorious & blessed name. Amen.

Praying for you! Do not be ashamed, take courage, you’re doing a good thing by helping yourself!

I am praying for you. If you haven’t yet seen a specialist, please consider doing so. Doctors have made huge advances with eating disorders in the past 30 years since I was in high school, it may be just a matter of balancing your brain chemistry with medication and/ or a combination of behavior modification therapy.

There’s a “Novena for Dieters” to Saint John Climacus; if you have a Kindle it’s only $ .99, and it’s for all disordered eating, not strictly for dieters. It addresses the dilemma of body and soul and has reflections on temperance, how the body is good, gluttony and moderation of the flesh, appetites and perseverance, etc. You are far from alone, fight the good fight and don’t give up. Please don’t be ashamed, that isn’t helpful or kind to your self. God loves you!

Good luck and God bless you.

Been on both ends of the eating disorder spectrum – it can be a terrifying trial at times :hug1:

Praying for you, dear one.

Virgin Mary, Mother of fair love, Mother who never refuses to come to the aid of a child in need, Mother whose hands never cease to serve your beloved children because they are moved by the divine love and immense mercy that exists in your heart, cast your compassionate eyes upon me and see the snarl of knots that exist in my life.
You know very well how desperate I am, my pain and how I am bound by these knots.
Mary, Mother to whom God entrusted the undoing of the knots in the lives of his children, I entrust into your hands the ribbon of my life.
No one, not even the evil one himself, can take it away from your precious care. In your hands there is no knot that cannot be undone.
Powerful Mother, by your grace and intercessory power with Your Son and My Liberator, Jesus, take into your hands today this knot…I beg you to undo it for the glory of God, once for all, You are my hope.
O my Lady, you are the only consolation God gives me, the fortification of my feeble strength, the enrichment of my destitution and with Christ the freedom from my chains.
Hear my plea.
Keep me, guide me, protect me, o safe refuge!

Mary, Undoer of Knots, pray for me

Please know that this is not something to be ashamed of and that there is help for you. I will pray for you to be healed.

Memorare

REMEMBER, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided. Inspired with this confidence, I fly to thee, O Virgin of virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come; before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.

Dear friends, I am really struggling with an eating disorder and I need help. I am ashamed and need help. Will you please pray for me?

Thank you…
I’m sorry it’s been so hard. 😦

There’s really nothing to be ashamed of, though. You didn´t mention whether you are in treatment or not. If you’re not, would you consider seeing a counselor about this? Often, these issues have an emotional component.

Also, there are support groups, Overeater’s Anonymous…and ones for those who have anorexia, bulimia, etc.

You are NOT alone!

I have a problem where I overeat. Some suggest for us, overeaters, that it is a kind of codependency. Some people turn to alcohol, and others, to food, but basically, underlying that, we sometimes have issues. Then, we can seek comfort in food, alcohol, all kinds of things.

Now, I would ask you if you would reconsider your position on guilt, though, shame. Guilt and shame are VERY powerful.

Now, regret can be helpful but NOT guilt. Let me give you a specific example of guilt. If I overeat, or for other reasons, I can feel SO guilty that I can run to the refrigerator, eat something, just to try to feel better!

So, do you see my point about guilt? Guilt is SO not helpful.

Regret can be healthy, positive, but guilt, not so. Guilt’s a negative emotion, which, instead of healing, kills and wounds everything in its path, destroys what is left of self esteem (which is necessary for healing and recovery).

In order to recover, you will need your self esteem back, to begin to love yourself and accept yourself AS YOU ARE, first. This is the great irony.

If you make a mistake, I ask you to please forgive yourself as you would others. Include yourself in the circle of those who you are good to from here on out.

Guilt, instead of liberating us, further cements in whatever vices and bad habits we have.
Guilt makes everything 100% worse, NOT better. So, I ask you if you would consider letting go of it so that you can heal, move forward, not be stuck in guilt, which dwells on the past, not the present or future.

I’d encourage you to get professional help, because I believe you deserve that. Also, would you consider speaking to a nutritionist and explain your problem? Whatever your issue…be it anorexia, bulimia, or overeating, I can assure you that you are NOT the first one to experience this, but there is all kinds of help and support. I hope you won´t feel the need to “go it alone”.

I, myself, have looked for an Overeater’s Anonymous AND have gone to a nutritionist, myself. So, I speak from my personal experience. In Mexico, in the city I live, I couldn´t find OA, but had one been close enough, I would have LOVED to have had that kind of support.

As a fellow person with an eating disorder, I just wanted to say you’re not alone, to love yourself, first, accept yourself, consider getting help. It’s no small thing to overcome an eating disorder…overeating…or overeating in reverse (anorexia). God bless you, and good luck! 👍

Please don’t feel ashamed. You are not alone struggling with an eating disorder and usually we all struggle with some issue in some way. I hope you find the help you need and remember with God all things are possible.

Mary.

I will echo what has been said, shame is not of God. Something that has been helpful for me in my own struggles with an ED, is that we are all disordered in one way or another. It’s been comforting, in a way, to know that my cross is not something outside of the realm of what Christ can redeem. I will be praying for you, and for everyone who struggles with these types of disordered thoughts and behaviors.

Saint Michael, the archangel, defend us in battle, be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil, may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. And do you, O’ Prince of the Heavenly host, by the power of God thrust into Hell Satan and all the other evil spirits who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on Earth as it is in Heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

Amen.

†

Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.

Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Prayer for a Miracle

God of all creation, you who spoke a simple command and brought forth light from
the darkness, I ask you now to send forth your miracle-working power to heal eatpraylove11. You cleansed the lepers, opened the eyes of the blind and by
speaking a simple command, you empowered the crippled to rise up and walk.
You sent forth your life-giving power to all those in need, including those you raised from
the dead. I ask you to send forth your healing power into eatpraylove11’s body and give him the strength to fight his illness. I ask this through my Lord, Jesus Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

Prayer of St. Dymphna

Lord, our God, you graciously chose St. Dymphna as patroness of those afflicted with mental, emotional, and nervous disorders. She is thus an inspiration and a symbol of charity to the thousands who ask her intercession.

Please grant, Lord, through the prayers of this pure youthful martyr, relief and consolation to all suffering such trials, and especially for eatpraylove11, who has an eating disorder.

We beg you, Lord, to hear the prayers of St. Dymphna on our behalf. Grant all those for whom we pray patience in their sufferings and resignation to your divine will.

Please fill them with hope, and grant them the relief and cure they so desire.
We ask this through Christ our Lord who suffered agony in the garden. Amen.
