Eating Ice Cubes before Mass

That doesn’t always work in all cases, for instance, people with medical issues or pregnant women or growing kids. I’ve seen young men faint during noon Mass at the Latin Mass parish I go to, because their blood sugar got too low.
Except for those who have medical issues–and cannot refrain from eating something within the 3 hrs prior to communion—it should not be a problem for the rest. They can eat a good breakfast that can hold them over till Mass is over.

OK so I have a question about something.

Today we had Mass at my school, and I attended. I came 5-10 minutes before to get seated and realized I had gum in my mouth. I was going to go spit it out or swallow it, but I got caught up in a conversation with someone. Then about 10-15 minutes into the Mass, I realized I was still chewing the gum! I had not even noticed I had the gum in my mouth. So then I immediately swallowed it. Later on in the Mass, as communion was approaching, I was wondering to myself if I should recieve communion, or not? Because I have heard that if you have eaten anything besides water or medication within an hour before communion, then you should not recieve the Eucharist. But in the end, I did recieve the Eucharist. Was this a sin? If I completely forgot to spit out my gum? I’m a little worried, but this could just be my scruples getting the best of me…
Chewing gum isn’t food.

I would think anyone sitting with designer coffee in church would feel they had to put at least a couple of hundred into the offering as befitting their lifestyle. 😃

I know this is kinda silly but I go to Mass at 12 noon and sometimes I’m still sucking on Ice Cubes from my Iced Coffee in the morning. Somtimes within the one hour before receiving the Eucharist.

Is Ice considered water ? I know that water is ok before Mass.

There is absolutely no Coffee left in the cup by this point, it’s just ice. No discoloration of the Cofee is left at this point. There is no detectable sign of it in the cup and the Ice cubes are perfectly clear just like water.

Thanks, Steve
The point of the fast is to prepare you for the Eucharist. Better safe than sorry, so either drink your coffee earlier or throw whatever left is out so that you won’t break the fast.
