I recently confessed about looking at pornagraphy but I forgot to confess that I actually recieved communion in the state of mortal sin. To add to the matter i did not recall the priest giving me the formula for absolution he just go in peace. Does that count? Im really down in the dumps in the moment.

:nope:Ummm…are you sure about this? A Catholic cannot go to a non-Catholic minister and confess and it be valid I do not believe…

The essential elements are two: the acts of the penitent who comes to repentance through the action of the Holy Spirit, and the absolution of the priest who in the name of Christ grants forgiveness and determines the ways of making satisfaction.

From what I understand from everything I’ve ever been taught. To receive a valid confession & absolution, it must be a validly ordained Catholic priest.

Yes, God knows your heart and knows your sin and every time I sin I tell God but I ALSO go to the Priest (who is here in the name of Christ) so that I may receive the sacrament of penance validly. I believe that it all goes back to Apostolic succession, which only validly ordained Catholic priests have.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong or provide some better links but I always thought this was right…

Can. 965 A priest alone is the minister of the sacrament of penance.
Can. 966 §1. The valid absolution of sins requires that the minister have, in addition to the power of orders, the faculty of exercising it for the faithful to whom he imparts absolution.

This is a wonderful time of year for confession (the sacrament). I like to go right before the Feast of Divine Mercy to gain the indulgence. It was after reading St. Faustina’s diary years ago that I was inspired to make a general confession. If you do this you can confess sins you forgot before, going to Communion in a state of sin, and whatever else you can think of! Let’s spread the word about Jesus’ promise about the feast of Divine Mercy. What a gift!
