Eating meat during Lent?

Recently at work a conversation began about eating meat on friday’s. This person said there has been a new ruling from the Pope. And you can choose to eat fish or meat? I said that is not what my Priest or Church says in Livermore. Is this true?? She told the other person it is okay??
