What are the rules on not eating meet of every Friday of the year? Is it like the Lent rule that the rule applies to people 14 and older?

The universal norm is that we are to abstain from meat every Friday that is not a Solemnity, but in the US we are allowed to substitute another penance on Fridays outside Lent.

What about Fridays of the Easter Season. We abstain throughout the year and a friend said that the Easter season was exempt . I cannot find that anywhere.

The days in the Octave of Easter are equivalent to Solemnities.

That doesn’t apply to the whole season.

It’s funny you should ask that because today I was thinking of my grandmother and a particular incident that she had with my brother in reference to eating meat on Fridays. My brother could be pretty notorious for teasing my grandmother, so she always seemed to be on guard whenever he asked her questions. On this particular Friday he said to her, “Nana, what did you think of Hamlet?” (he obviously was referring to the play by Shakespeare). She then got very annoyed and screamed out, “I had fish sticks for lunch!!” Yes, we laughed…shame on us!
