Where did you get that information? I went to their site says otherwise: cccb.ca/site/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=2327&Itemid=1226

Unless of course, I’m missing something here? I’d love to cut fish out of my diet after lent, I absolutely hate it!
You missed the part where we can substitute another form of penance - except on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.

Check out this link:

cccb.ca/site/eng/commissions-committees-and-aboriginal-council/sectoral-commissions/liturgy-and-the-sacraments-english-sector/documents/2319-keeping-friday
In accordance with the prescriptions of canon 1253, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops decrees that the days of fast and abstinence in Canada are Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Fridays are days of abstinence, but Catholics can substitute special acts of charity or piety on this day.
There is also absolutely nothing that says you have to eat fish. You could eat an omelet, cheese pizza, mac & cheese (which for me would be a much bigger penance than fish), a peanut butter sandwich, lentil soup, any number of fish-free and meat-free meals that are filling and which you don’t loathe. Or you could simply not have that beer at TGIF or not go out that night or not watch TV or other things that you enjoy and could give up for that day.

I have no problem avoiding meat on Fridays; for me that’s easier than anything else. I like fish so because my husband is not partial to vegetarian meals we do have fish for supper on Fridays.

Not eating meat can be more penitential on some days than on others, particularly when there are events on Friday that feature delicious foods that contain meat.

So bluntly put, my friends and I should definitely eat sushi and sashimi on Fridays during this Lent in* moderation*. And by moderation, I mean no more than six or eight at the very most.
I wouldn’t say that you “should definitely,” rather that it is a valid option among many.

Well, if it’s all about making yourself miserable, you could always drop a hammer on your toe and then eat your sushi…

😉

Or I could watch several back to back episodes of The Game of Thrones, which I hate by the way.
