I disagree strongly with Adeodatus’s characterization of the NAB, however his point about the RSV as an alternative is a good one. And this is actually available for the nook for 10 bucks. Here’s the link.

Of course you can also download a sample for free, and you should be able to browse the whole bible for free on your nook if you’re sitting in any B&N store.

I did end up getting the NRSV Standard Catholic Edition and I enjoy the translation. Only problem I’m having is I tried using it at a Bible study and it is almost impossible to find the verses without spending 10 min. scrolling throug the entire book. This can be problematic especially if you’re in Psalms where even if you get to the right chapter you still have to get to the right page.

I realize new technology always has its challenges, but it would be nice to get directly to the Bible chapter as opposed to getting to the book in the Bible and then guessing what page the chapter might be on. 🤷

Has anyone read any good Catholic doctrine books recently on the Nook? I realize the market for such books is generally small unfortunately, but it seems to be that the only author I can find is Scott Hahn (that or Catholic bashing books about women priests and the sexual abuse scandal). I enjoy Hahn’s books but I’ve read the vast majority and would like some suggestions as to some authors I may not have read that have ebooks on Barnes and Noble. Thanks! 🙂

Yes, you are right about it being difficult to get some of the lessor read good Catholic books in Ebook format. Most of Scott Hahn’s books seem to be available because they sell well. Another author I have recently discovered that I like is Peter Kreeft, unfortunately the book that I read that impressed me was “Handbook of Christian Aplogetics” and it does not appear to be available on ebook.

He does have 17 books available for the Nook at B/N and I plan on purchasing some of them. I am currently reading is book"You Can Understand the Bible"

For an author from academica Peter Kreeft seems to fight the tide in that world…

I love my nook, but what I love even more/just as much is my new Droid phone. I have the (free) nook app for it and can access my entire nook library from my phone, including increasing the font size to read w/o my glasses. In fact, my son can use the actual nook while I read a different book (from the same account) on my phone. DH can use his Droid and read a 3rd book. The phone also is it’s own light source for bed reading.

DH and I got our Droids about 2 wks ago for $149 for two plus of course the service contract with Verizon.

AND on the Droid I have free apps for daily Mass readings/LOTH, litanies, etc. I don’t know the translation but it’s the same one used in our Missalettes.

Any updates on where we can get the NAB in readable ebook form?

My understanding is that the USCCB owns the publishing rights for the NAB. Looking at the USCCB store, there still are no digital offerings in epub format. I recently sent an email to the USCCB asking if they would be offering any of their titles in epub format. They have not replied as of yet.

I would think that they, like most publishers, will start to offer titles in epub and kindle formats. This Christmas the e-readers were big sellers. The most avid readers have ereaders. I think it is just taking time for publishers to convert more of their titles.

Kudos to Ignatius Press since they already have many digital offerings. I personally am looking forward to a good digital epub Catholic Catechism. I also would like to get the new version of Pope John Paul II’s Theology of the Body but Paulist Press also has not offered any digital titles yet.

I would recommend sending emails to the USCCB, Paulist Press and other publishers so that they feel pressure to convert titles.

For daily readings, you can download the readings a full month at a time from a great site called Mobile Gabriel. You just download the file each month and transfer it to your ereader and it works great. I have a Kindle 3, so I know they work on that (I use the MobiPocket format, but I think there are others), but I’m sure it might work on the Nook too.

I can’t figure out how to put it on my nookcolor and would LOVE to get daily readings on it. The nook uses e-pub formats. If anyone knows of an e-pub daily reading that I can get, please let me know.

Thank you - I’ll give it a try tomorrow and let you know how it goes.
