I have an EC baptism of my son coming up. Godfathers and mothers attending are Roman Catholic. I want to find a video to send them of an EC baptism to show them what they can expect. Can you recommend me any links?

Go to youtube and search for “St. Elias Brampton”. Although a bit of warning though, not every Byzantine Rite parish will do baptism the same way as St. Elias. Even my daughter who was baptized in the UGCC did not have the same exact way of baptism.

My parish is very traditional so I would guess that its the same. I will have a look thanks. By the way out of interest, what different ways do they baptise?

could you not make it more interesting for them and simply warn them to expect the unexpected rather than send video’s of which wouldn’t show them how your own church does it. 🙂

Subtle differences. For example in our parish my daughter wasn’t tonsured, the baptism occurs by the iconostas, not at the narthex or entrance of the nave. etc.

What does tonsured mean? My sons last baptism began at the entrance but the baptism took place in front of the iconatosis.

Tonsuring involves cutting some hair. We usually hear tonsuring when men and women become monastics, but everyone who is baptized is tonsured. In some cases, those who are received by chrismation (no baptism) would also be tonsured.

Both my kids were born with full heads of hair, so there is no reason for the priest to skip tonsuring if that was part of the practice. Thing is, it is not. St. Elias does tonsure, so you will see that in the video.
