About the dead knowing nothing. I guess I’m just asking for how those in heaven can help us when it’s said they know nothing? I do know that God is the God of the living and stuff like that.

Catholics believe that we do not die…our bodies die. We believe that those who have entered into the beatific vision (heaven) are very aware of everything - they know, for instance, where they are! So obviously the ‘dead’ know something.About the dead knowing nothing. I guess I’m just asking for how those in heaven can help us when it’s said they know nothing? I do know that God is the God of the living and stuff like that.
We also believe that they can intercede for us in prayer - they can pray with us and for us. Holy Scripture, in the Book of Revelations, speaks to the saints in heaven carrying our prayers to the throne of God like incense.
The key to understanding what is written in Ecclesiastes is to understand the context in which it is being written, to read it holistically in a literal sense.

Solomon was in a state of apostasy when he wrote that book, so I would not form theology based on it.

Hadock Commentary:
Ver 5. Know nothing more, viz. As to the transactions of this world, in which they have now no part, unless it be revealed to them; neither have they any knowledge or power now of doing any thing to secure their eternal state, (if they have not taken care of it in their lietime) nor can they procure themselves any good, as the living always may do, by the Grace of God.
I think the bottom line meaning is that once you die the state of your soul at death determines if you are saved or not and there is nothing you can know or do after that to change your destination.

Ecclesiastes is an OT book, written before Our Lord’s redemption and opening of heaven’s gates. Consider that the state of the souls who died before Jesus differs from souls since then.
