I’ve read many times on here where folks have to drive great distances to get to DL and maybe can attend only once a month because so far.
Are you able to have a EC life outside of DL if no one lives around you? How do you live your life out without other EC’s around?
Just curious. Thanks.

OK, now I am really showing my age/stupidity, but I have looked at the abbreviations/slang list - nothing there, and I just can’t figure out what DL and EC are! Could you please interpet for me…:o

EC = Eastern Catholic
DL = Divine Liturgy, more commonly the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom

Private prayers by EC formulae.

Use of icons in private prayer life.

Study of EC and parallel orthodox theological works.

I’m still able to drive and thus able to go the 40 mins to my parish. I drive about an hour and a half getting home because I take one of our elderly Brothers back to his residence and then go to my home. It definitely makes me wonder about what I will do when I cannot drive anymore. Neither my parish nor the Orthodox I go to is accessible from my home by public transit. I go to every service I can manage to get to now while I still can and I hope I’ll have these beautiful memories to reflect on when I no longer have a way to get to DL and all the other services somewhere. When I can’t travel to my parish and the Russian Orthodox parish I prefer I go to the Greeks locally. It’s far from my first choice for a number of reasons but I’m very grateful they are there and I would probably still go there when my driving days come to an end. Can’t get there by public transit either but could get a ride probably because it’s close by.

There are always Catholics in Orthodox parishes. They’re used to having us around. Some are less kind than others, but always there are some who have an appreciation for our “piety” such as it is.

I listen to our Liturgical and service music/prayers all the time. At home, in the car. Read. Pray.

I made special arrangements yesterday to make it to the first Mass of a Dominican here because I knew that Fr. Maximos from HRM would be there, and I hoped to see him. We got to talk for about 15 minutes as he was getting ready to leave. Just that short time was so important. I saw Abbot Nicholas the day before for about 4 minutes and that also was a huge treat… I hadn’t known either was coming up here for these ordinations. Once I knew they were here I wanted to do whatever I could for any amount of time together. We have so little chance for these encounters which are precious.
