Ecumenical Councils

[w_stewart]

I need a downloadable credible book or any other reference solely dedicated on the ecumenical councils, their history and the reasons they were convened and who convened them. What I have are different references on the seven councils, usually lacking of historical backgrounds.

Any help? Thanks.

Any other downloadable reference independent from the Catholic Church?
