"Ecumenical Grail Psalms?"

I’ve had a copy of the “Grail Psalms” for years, but just saw a reference to something called the “Ecumenical Grail Psalms.” Is this just a new edition, or has the translation been changed in some way?

I found this bit of history on GIA’s website:

It looks like an ecumenical version of the 2008 Revised Grail Psalms. Apparently, that version attracted interest from a variety of non-Catholic communities who wanted a version of the Psalms that had the poetry and rhythm of the Revised Grail Psalms, but with more of an eye to the original Hebrew.

So it does look to be a new translation—and one that is not approved for liturgical use.

Interestingly enough, you can actually view the text of the Ecumenical Grail Psalms and the Revised Grail Psalms on the GIA website.

Here’s Psalm 1:1–2 in the RGP:

1 Blessed indeed is the man
who follows not the counsel of the wicked,
nor stands in the path with sinners,
nor abides in the company of scorners,
2 but whose delight is the law of the LORD,
and who ponders his law day and night.

And here it is in the EGP:

1 Blessed indeed are those
who follow not the counsel of the wicked,
nor stand in the path with sinners,
nor abide in the company of scorners,
2 but whose delight is the law of the LORD,
and who ponder God’s law day and night.

It looks pretty similar except for the inclusive language in the EGP.
