Ecumenism failed?

What has the ecumenical movement reached?
Some documents that are gathering dust in some shelves at a chancery somewhere?
Perhaps some more understanding among Protestants and Orthodox of what Catholics believe?
A lot of confusion on the part of Catholics of what the Catholic faith is?

No more evangelizing of the Jews, the Orthodox nor the Protestants.
This is plain evil.
 
I think lumping all the efforts in the movement together is not fair. Their have been many problems and failures, but not every effort.

The generally, the problem has more to do with Catholics not knowing and speaking about their own faith, and less on who they speak to.

That more and more Christian bodies are no longer dissing each other at every turn is a good thing, IMHO. It is easier to win people back to the Church through understanding than to stand on a street corner hurling anathemas at each other. 😉

This I lay at the feet of the “spirit of the age” that swept through the Church beginning in the 60’s. A lot of people thought watering down the truths of the faith would bring more people into the Church. It didn’t. All it did was water down the faith of Catholics, many of whom have no true knowledge of what their own Church teaches.

No, not at all. What is being asked is no targeting of Jews, Orthodox or Protestants. This is not the same thing as not evangelizing. If it were this very website would be against Church teaching, which it isn’t. We are perfectly free to present the truths of the faith to others, no matter what their faith tradition.

What we are to do is respect others’ faith traditions while helping them see the truth and beauty that lies within the Church. It’s a matter of emphasis, not of giving up on those outside the Church.
