Hi! I’m excited to be a new member (though not a new reader)! I’m a soon-to-be 3 year old Catholic (in my worldly 50s) - and a former atheist / agnostic, latet Protestant. I don’t see a category titled Ecumenism here. Should there be one? Not to change our principles, but to work towards unity and help us communicate with humility across the lines so to speak… Speaking of which, any new news / update on the Lausanne Conference of the 1970s? And did some Catholics take part in it as an ecumenical endeavor?

Welcome! And welcome home!

Apologetics is the place where we explain and defend the faith. Sadly, ecumenism is often an attempt to reduce or re-define revealed truth to the lowest common denominator so that more may believe.

What is lost in the process is saltiness.

Understood, but I’m talking about the less “often” (more salty / authentic…?) side of ecumenism. Does it exist?

There is no “Interested in Catholicism” forum, and I see this as a need. It would have to be heavily moderated, as the trolls would find a lot of food there. Not that I’ve seen that…

And THANKS for your earlier welcome, po18guy - I’m super excited to be HOME!! Yes that topic would be good too, but like you said might engender trolling… Thanks for chatting. Glory to God in the highest for shining His eternal light on our paths to guide our thoughts, words, and deeds!

The main ecumenical organ is the World Council of Churches, in which the RCC has a permanent observer status. The Lausanne conference, to my knowledge, is more of an intra-protestant movement.

I think that is right. We must simply be patient here, knowing that many, from all religions - and no religion at all - are reading our posts. Those silent lurkers are who I often write to.
