But the same thing happened to Brian Pillman, Curt Hennig, Rick Rude, Davey Boy Smith, and many more. Very sad.
Rick Rude and BB? I wasn’t aware they had died too!

Wow. I didn’t know so many CAF members were wrestling fans.

That tribute reminded me of the Owen Hart tribute back in May 99. A real tear-jerker.

Speculation at this point is that he had an enlarged heart from steroid use. But again, that is speculation.

As much as I hate to believe it, Hennig was found with a large amount of cocain in his system.

On the tribute to Eddie, man, Rey Mysterio and Chris Beniot really made me come close to losing it. I’m surprised they didn’t interview Dean Malenko or even try to contact Chris Jericho for the show.

Isn’t it funny for us fans that when a pro-wrestler dies, we feel like we lose a member of our family.

Eddie was one of my favorites. To me he was a younger “Roddy Piper” in that he was the same kind of ‘smarty pants’ - obviously having a great time out there, a good athlete and a great entertainer. This wasn’t his first run at sobriety but it was his longest…and it wasn’t his first time at being ‘born again’. He and I had talked about this once and I had challenged him to think carefully about the fact that he had been baptized into the oldest continuous Christian tradition on the face of the earth, but unless he was willing to ‘do the deal’ and stay sober one day at a time he could be born again over and over and over and over and it wouldn’t do him a darn bit of good.

I hope to GOD this was not because of a relapse. I know that being in the entertainment field is very difficult, but I also know that for every person in that field who copes with the stress by doing drugs or treating their alcoholism with alcohol, there are many who chose to not do drugs and treat their alcoholism with 12 Steps or other forms of treatment. I hope Eddie died sober, since it was his time to go home.

??? LSK, you sound as if you’ve met him? If that’s true that’s pretty awesome. The only wrestler’s I’ve met were Scott Norton and Mike Enos about 15 years ago.

And I certainly didn’t get to talk about faith with them 🙂

I’m an OLD OLD OLD wrestling fan…shoot, my Grandfather DIED at a wrestling match…watching the father of the Texas Tornado (anyone remember him? or any of his brothers? All but one died) wrestle at the old auditorium in Santa Clara, CA.

There were, for awhile, quite a few of the old WWF guys who were in recovery. And, for some people, recovery leads either back to their faith or to the ‘born again’ Christian route. For those of us in recovery, our paths inevitably cross. I met Eddie through recovery. I always enjoyed his work as an entertainer, and used to tease him that he was ALMOST as good as Rowdy Roddy Piper…

That’s a great story! It’s too bad that so many people end up going the “Born Again Christian” route, though. As for the Texas Tornado, Kerry von Erich, isn’t his dad, Fritz, still alive? I know Kerry killed himself, as did most of the family, but the one remaining brother (David?) was on Raw not too long ago.

Again, that’s so cool that you got to meet Eddie at one point. Congrats on you’re own rehab too. 🙂

Now I could be wrong about this, but I think Fritz just passed away about a year ago. I know Kerry’s mom died awhile back. In fact I think the oldest boy - is it Kevin? David? Golly, I forget- is the only one left now.

So many of the guys and gals end up dead due to drugs, alcohol and that whole lifestyle that goes along with ‘the jazz’. Remember Randy Savage’s wife? Her name escapes me now…she was murdered by the guy who was known as ‘The Narcisist’ in a domestic dispute fueled by drugs, alcohol…sad sad sad…oh, what a GREAT life.

Well, RIP Latino Heat…you were a great entertainer…

Kevin Von Erich was on RAW about a month ago, the “Night of Heroes”, as were tons of other older, classic wrestlers. it was great, glad I Tivoed it.

It was Elizabeth. She wasn’t murdered though. She was living with Lex Luger and choked on her food after having drunk a bottle of vodka. Luger tried to revive her with no avail. But when the police showed up, they found hundred of bottles of illegal steriods. I think Luger’s trying to clean up his act now and still keeps in contact with fellow born-again Sting. Luger and Liz did have a domestic call earlier that week. I was surprised that Vince didn’t try to book a Luger/Savage match at Wrestlemania that year in “honor” of Elizabeth. (I’d bet good money he thought about it.)

It is very sad to see what these wrestlers put themselves through.

YOU’RE RIGHT!!! Miss Elizabeth - not murdered…choked to death…what was I thinking? There had been domestic abuse charges though, right? See what I did - started spreading rumors…shame on ME.:tsktsk:

And the guy was Lex Luger…is he wrestling again? Well, good for him…clean and sober? Even better…I LIKE COME BACK STORIES!!!

Isn’t Vince Catholic though?
hmm, I don’t know where to begin with that one. His daughter was at least married in a Catholic church though. www.imdb.com/name/nm0573080/bio

I heard (former Catholic) Shawn Michaels say that both he and Eddie Guerrero shared being “born again Christians”. The funeral was non-Catholic.
