Again as I noted earlier, some people do go through an annulment for less than ideal reasons. I think they know that they are lying and know that wouldn’t go down well with the Church. But they perhaps want justification, or perhaps just want that Church wedding. Regardless, just telling them that it is a sin is not a deterrent. Its like giving a gun to a serial killer and telling them that it is only lawful to shoot somebody if it is self defense.
I agree with Jen, needless to say by my last comment.
But in reading this and other threads about annulments, I have to wonder why such an interest in such serious policing of
one sacrament over another?
Are you willing to persue, with the same vigor, the policing of individuals that are taking communion when not in a state of grace? The same offense to God is taking place. How about those that claim illness when they have nothing more then a cold for Unction. Confirmation, someone who doesn’t believe in Church teachings but lies in order to be confirmed?
There are limits to what we, as humans, can do in order to keep things in perfect order.
We don’t judge those we “think” we know are taking communion while not in a state of grace because it is for God to do. God can’tbe fooled.
The same goes with an annulment.
Of course there are people who lie just to get what they want. But, again, I am quite sure God handles that in His own measure.
All of this bluster about what should be done, the obvious answer is to teach God’s Word! Not sugar coat it for the politically correct, but teach it. From the beginning.
That will naturally
cut down those that couldn’t care less about the Church’s rules on Marriage.
I say, “cut down” because we, as humans, will never be able to eradicate “evil” entirely or even mostly.
No one is going to “get one over” on God or anyone, God has that covered.
I think, we each have a large enough task looking after our own sins, let alone worrying about if we have caught someone else in sin.
But, this is my** personal** opinion and two cents worth.
